The Power of Expectancy
The Power of Expectancy
And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid. For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet: The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter. But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs. And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs. And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter. And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.
Mark 7:24-30 KJV
Mark 11:24
WHAT IS FAITH? (Hebrews 11:1) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (11:2) For by it the elders obtained a good report.
WHY DO WE NEED FAITH? Because Faith pleases God. (10:23) Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) (11:6) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
God requires for us that know Him to live by faith. (Hebrews 10:38) Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
Each person has been given a proportion of faith to operate in their lives. (Romans 12:3) For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
NO FAITH: (Mark 4:35) And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. (4:36) And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. (4:37) And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. (4:38) And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? (4:39) And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. (4:40) And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? (4:41) And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? (Their lack of knowledge of Jesus caused them to fear instead of trusting God in their storm)
LITTLE FAITH:
(Matthew 6:30) Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? (6:31) Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (6:32) (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. (6:33) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
We have to learn to exercise and build what faith that we have so that it grows daily, otherwise we limit the possibilities and opportunities that we can be accomplished by having Great Faith. Take the little that you have, work with it until it becomes more that what it was originally.
Every test and trial that we go through is for the trying of our faith. (James 1:3) Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. (1:4) But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
Like building strong muscles in our physically bodies, we must learn to work out our faith. (2 Corinthians 5:7) (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) (5:8) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (5:9) Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
Like working on a project or building, the foundation must be solid in order for the building to stand against any adversity that comes against it. (Jude 1:20) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (1:21) Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
FAITH IS AS FAITH DOES! PUT YOUR FAITH INTO ACTION!
GREAT FAITH: Is something that we all should strive to achieve, it’s that Faith that believes that can succeed in any situation or circumstance, overcome obstacles and jump over hurdles, climb or if necessary go through mountains, and stand in the midst of the raging storms of life and SURVIVE! Great Faith is built from test, trials and tribulations; it is forged in the fiery furnace when the heat is turned up and we become temperate in all things, learning to endure and not give up, refusing to quit and determined to persevere we become stronger and less vulnerable to those things, people and situations that once almost destroyed and hindered our faith. You can’t buy Great Faith, you have to work to achieve it, and once you have it, no one or nothing can take it from you, from that moment on you become invincible and your faith begins to work miracles and wonders, because your belief and trust is in God and Him alone.
(Matthew 8:1) When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. (8:2) And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.(8:3) And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.(8:4) And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. (8:5) And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, (8:6) And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. (8:7) And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. (8:8) The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. (8:9) For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. (8:10) When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Great Faith brings great results
The Problem of faith today is simply this: Lacking Expectation
James 1: 2,3,6-7’
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
James 1:2-3, 6-7 KJV
Do you really expect miracles when you pray? If we will be truthful today, Sometimes we pray for and hope for them,
Lets be honest
“Lord, I know You can heal him…but God if it is Your will…”
“Oh Father, would You reveal Yourself to her?”
“If it’s possible, God, will You…?”
We all have something in common today, because we have all prayed prayers like these. Why do we pray, “Lord if it is your will” prayers? The reason why, We pray these kind of prayers, is because we want to see miracles happen, but not we don’t want to be disappointed.
So many times our prayers become a spin cycle of repetition. And the longer we pray it is the less and less faith we have for something or someone until we simply cease to pray about it at all.
But expectation is different.
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Mark 11:24 KJV
Expectation means waiting in anticipation with a firm foundation and trust that what I expect to happen will certainly, without a doubt, happen.
This is how God’s Word calls us to pray. Not just with words that will hopefully float toward heaven, but with anticipation and expectation that the God of Heaven hears and responds to our heart’s cry and knows it’s deepest desires.
And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
You can’t die until your what you believe God for comes to pass. (You say it was shown to him, Your word does the same right now) blessed in the city blessed in the field.
And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
(She know who it was. She didn’t miss her moment. She was one of the First to see him)
Luke 2:25-30, 36-38 KJV

God Can
God’s Word is true
I want it-Desire
I confess it- Prayer
I believe it- Faith
I believe that I receive- Expectation
You can only expect after revelation of the power source.
The Power of Expectancy
You can move the hand of God with expectancy.
Hebrews 11:6 tells us that our faith pleases God. We need to understand that if God is going to do something, He looks for people who have expectation. In Luke 3:15, we see desperate people in eager expectation of their Messiah’s coming. One translation says that the people were on tiptoes in anticipation and expectation. (anna and the Prophet) Expect the promise.
Our God is all-powerful, yet we limit His work in our lives when we refuse to believe in His ability and His victory. We need to activate our faith and stand in tiptoe expectation, knowing He can do the impossible! Let’s take a look at two men in the Bible that stood on their tiptoes in expectation.
Here are a Few Classic Examples

The Syrophoenician woman

The Syrophoenician Woman: A Woman of Great Faith
Jesus didn’t want anyone to know he was in town
“And from thence he arose, and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon” (Mark 7:24a). Matthew wrote that Jesus “withdrew” (15:21). This was the third time in which Jesus withdrew from Galilee in the gospel of Mark (cf. 4:35; 6:31).
The Lord sought solitude with his disciples, but the text says,
“And he entered into a house, and would have no man know it; and he could not be hid” (7:24b).
He had not gone into Gentile territory to embark on a healing ministry, but his fame had reached beyond the borders of Galilee (cf. 3:8).
This Woman Desired something
During this retreat into a largely Gentile region, a woman approached Jesus for help. Mark introduced the account with a strong adversative conjunction, “but,” (Grk. alla), recording the fact that in contrast to the need for seclusion, a notable scene developed.
Mark 7:25 reveals that when this woman heard that Jesus was in the area, she came immediately and fell down at his feet. She fell down at his feet when she heard and when she came. Thus, the writer expressed the urgency in this mother’s heart as she unabashedly pursued Jesus — immediately. Urgent
The Attitude of Expectation
Mark explained that she was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race (7:26). She was a Greek speaking lady who was a Gentile. She kept on asking him to cast forth the demon out of her daughter.
Her initial approach:
Matthew related that her request was formed in this way: “Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a demon. But he answered her not a word” (Matthew 15:22-23). So intrusive was this woman that the disciples encouraged Jesus to send her away. ( She had no rights or claims as a Jew, she was a gentile woman, addressing Jesus in a Jewish manner)
He ignores her- What do we do when God ignores us? – Keep asking
He finally responded-
Jesus replied by saying, “I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matthew 15:24).
Her (Expectant) reaction-
“But she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me” (v. 25). (She added worship to her request)
“And he said to her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs” (Mark 7:27).
Perhaps she saw a glimmer of hope in the word “first,” for Jesus implicitly revealed that while there was a redemptive priority for the Jews, the blessings of heaven did not exclusively belong to them.
The Jews may have priority but the blessing is not exclusive to them.
With remarkable insight and persistence, she replied, “Yea, Lord; even the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs” (Mark. 7:28). Jesus responded,
“For this saying go thy way; the demon is gone out of thy daughter” (v. 29).
“This saying,” (i.e., her reply to Jesus) evidenced great faith on her part. Matthew records the assessment of our Lord: “O woman, great is thy faith” (15:28). Because of her faith, expressed in her thoughtful exchange with Jesus, the Lord granted her request for a miracle. The verb “is gone out,” is in the perfect tense, reflecting the Lord’s control and power. The demon left while they spoke and would remain out.
Consider the following observations about this woman of great faith.
This lady had great spiritual insight. She was not asking the Lord to alter the way he was implementing the plan of God, which would later be carried out by the apostles to the Jew first and also to the Greek. She was simply asking for a “crumb.” Faith is based upon understanding the will of God. It is founded upon knowledge — not mere emotion.
This mother illustrated the connection between faith and unfavorable circumstances. Great faith will rely upon the Son of God. Faith becomes stronger in times of distress for those who tenaciously depend on God (cf. James 1:2-4).
This woman demonstrated that great faith seeks the welfare of others. Those who trust in God will intercede for others. How much more ought we to be concerned about the spiritual welfare of those we love?
The Gentile lady showed the relationship of faith and humility. Her humble disposition complimented her genuine faith. Great faith is seeing one’s complete dependence upon God.
The Syrophoenician woman taught us that great faith endures. She was steadfast and resilient in her request of the Lord. Reminiscent of the woman who pursued the unjust judge, she reminds us to always pray and never give up (cf. Luke 18:1ff).
The distressed mother exemplified that great faith in the Son of God will result in a great deliverance.
In God’s economy: You get what you expect
The Woman with the Issue of Blood
Blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52)
We read about Bartimaeus’ bold faith when he yells for Jesus to have mercy on him. But we often overlook the significance of his garment. During those times, beggars were issued government clothing signifying they were legitimately disabled. It labeled them for all to know and recognize their need. As Bartimaeus cried out to Jesus, it says he threw aside his garment! What he was saying was, "I know I can't see yet, I know I'm not healed yet, but if Jesus is anywhere in my vicinity, I'm casting this away, fully expecting that I will never go back to that life of begging again. Jesus is going to give me a miracle today." Now that is the power of expectation!
I want to remind you about something. The devil is not concerned with what you used to be. The devil is not concerned with what you are. He is quite content when you remain content with your ‘crippled’ or ‘blind’ state, never expecting things to change. You’re no threat to him in that state. But do you know what torments him? Satan is terrorized by what you can be!
You've got to keep going. You've got to get on your tiptoes with a spirit of expectation that the best is still yet to come.
You don't have to see it to believe. Start now.
Praise in expectation.
Sow in expectation.
Pray in expectation.
Expect the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in every area of your life.
Our God is able! It's tiptoe time for you.
Get up on your tiptoes and say,
"Today I expect God to move.
I believe I can be healed, filled, blessed, and anointed!"
What area are you expecting God to breakthrough in your life? I want you to stand on your tiptoes with great expectation!

Physical and Emotional Healing-
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
