Review of Lesson 1

NETWORKS GOAL:

Is to help believers to be fruitful and fulfilled in a meaningful place of service.

WHY WE SERVE:

We serve to glorify God
And to edify others.

THE MOST REWARDING WAY TO SERVE IS TO SERVE ACCORDING TO OUR SERVANT PROFILE.

Spiritual gifts, which answer the what question.
Personal style, which answers the How.
Ministry passion, which answers the where.

WHAT ARE SPIRITUAL GIFTS?

Spiritual gifts (manifestations) are the special abilities given by the Holy Spirit and distributed to every believer according to God’s design and grace for the common good of the body of Christ!

HARMONY AND INTERDEPENDENCE

What do you think of when you hear the word harmony? Shalom?
Last week - video of individual sounds
Sound out of place and even ugly by themselves.
Together they sounded like a 90’s electronic song. LOL
Now let’s watch what interdependence and harmony sound like when done well.
YOUTUBE VIDEO
Think of the composer as the Holy Spirit.
Each instrument and voice is a gifts and each singer and musician are the individuals that make up the local body of Christ.
What would our local church look like if we each operated in our gifts in harmony and interdependence.

THINK THROUGH INTERDEPENDENCE :

DEPENDENCE - when we are young we are dependent on our parents and others.
Needing and relying on others for life needs.
Being unable or unwilling to provide for self.
Relying on the aid of another for support.
This is the norm when people first come to Jesus or when they have been broken and come to a new church.
Give an example?
Independent - When we get into the teens. Assert our attitudes and behaviors believing that if we are free form others, we will be independent.
Not needing or relying on others for life or rational needs.
Provide for self
Free from the influence, guidance, and control from others.
In our culture we often think of Independence as a sign of MATURITY.
Give an example of this in the Church.

HOWEVER GOD CALLS US TO BE IN INTERDEPENDENT RELATIONSHIPS.

Committing who we are and what we have to serve others.
Knowing what we can offer to and what we need from others.
Enjoying the fruit of the diversity of gifts and wisdom in the church.
MATURE BELIEVERS DO NOT REMAIN DEPENDENT OR INDEPENDENT BUT RATHER OFFER THEIR UNIQUENESS TO OTHERS AND RECEIVE GOD’S GRACES FROM OTHERS.
Romans 12:5 NIV
so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
1 Corinthians 12:27 NASB95
Now you are Christ’s body, and individually members of it.

HAVE A PERSON STAND AND READ ( 1 COR 12:14-26)

WHEN WE EACH DO WHAT WE ARE GIFTED BY THE SPIRIT TO DO, AND WE DO IT TOGETHER AS THE HOLY SPIRIT OUR CONDUCTER CALLS US TO - WE BECOME AN INTERDEPENDENT AND HARMONIC CHURCH.

QUESTION:

If we are called by God to be interdependent on one another and to each offer our gifts to the Church for the benefit of others, what keeps us from serving and relating to one another more interdependently?

EXCERCISE: GET IN GROUPS OF 3 - 12 minutes

THROUGH DISCUSSION IDENTIFY ONE AREA HINDERING YOU FROM BEING MORE INTERDEPENDENT.
AND THEN IDENTIFY ONE ACTION STEP YOU CAN TAKETO BECOME MORE INTERDEPENDENT.
Write you answers down on page 39

ACTIVITY FOR ALL-

LET’S IDENTIFY THE SPIRITUAL GIFTS LISTED IN SCRIPTURE.
As I read the next few passages and a Spiritual gift is identified, write the Spiritual gift in the space provided in your Participation Guide. - pg 40 and on.
Some gifts will be repeated - only write the gift down once - we are trying to build a list of gifts.
1 Corinthians 12:8–10 NASB95
For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:28 NASB95
And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues.
Romans 12:6–8 NASB95
Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
Ephesians 4:11 NASB95
And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,
1 Peter 4:9–10 NASB95
Be hospitable to one another without complaint. As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Exodus 31:3–5 NASB95
“I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, that he may work in all kinds of craftsmanship.
1 Timothy 2:1–2 NASB95
First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
Psalm 150:3–5 NASB95
Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe. Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with resounding cymbals.
CREATIVE COMMUNICATION
EACH OF US NOW SHOULD HAVE 23 GIFTS LISTED.
——————————————————————

JESUS IS THE ONE WHO POURS OUT THE GIFTS THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT.

THEREFORE, WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE GIFTS ARE THE GIFTS OF JESUS AND HE OPERATES HIS MINISTRY TODAY AS HE DID WHEN HE WALKED ON EARTH. HE NOW DOES MINISTRY THROUGH INDIVIDUALS OF HIS CHURCH, THROUGH THESE GIFTS WHICH ARE ACTIVATED IN US THROUGH THE HS.
