THE TEACHING SAVIOUR
Matthew 7:24–29 NASB95
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 “And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 “The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.” 28 When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
Jesus was the greatest teacher that ever lived. His teachings are almost 2,000 years old, yet they are good for us today. Note three things about His teachings: (1) Lead people to God, (2) Taught with power, and (3) Teaching has endured through the years
I. HE TAUGHT SALVATION
A. The New Birth—John 3:1–12
(Notice, ye must be born again—no other way)
B. Only two ways—broad and narrow—Matt. 7:13–14
C. Repentance—Luke 13:3
D. Believing—Mark 16:16—believe saved, unbelief means lost
E. Acceptance—John 1:12—something you must do
II. HE TAUGHT SEPARATION
A. He taught purity—Matt. 5:8
B. He taught righteousness—Matt. 5:20
C. He taught clean living—Matt. 5:28–30
D. He taught we should have a clean mind—Matt. 15:19
E. He taught we should use clean words—Matt. 12:34–36
III. HE TAUGHT STEADFASTNESS
(Matt. 7:24–29—built on a rock)
A. A rock is sure—Christians need to be likewise
B. A rock is unmovable—many Christians are unstable
C. A rock will endure—if we live according to the teachings of Jesus, we too will endure (live forever)
WE NEED MORE SOLID CHRISTIANS
IV. HE TAUGHT SUFFERING
A. Being hated, and even killed—Matt. 24:9
(Read also John 15:18, 19, and see why the world hates Christians)
B. Rejoice when persecuted—Matt. 5:11–12
(Jesus said, “Blessed (happy) are ye when persecuted)
C. Luke 9:23—note the three steps in suffering: (1) Deny yourself, (2) Take up cross, and (3) Follow me (Jesus)
V. HE TAUGHT SURRENDER
(Mark 8:35, save life (use for self) shall lose it, but he that loses his life (gives it to Christ) shall save it)
A. Surrender of time—168 hours per week. How many to God?
B. Surrender of life—don’t waste it on selfish desires
C. Surrender of money—all that we have belongs to God
D. Surrender of body—temples of the Holy Ghost
These are just five teachings of Christ. Are you obeying these? If not, begin NOW to obey Him. Disobedience always leads to sin! To be happy in Jesus, you MUST TRUST AND OBEY
