Okay I want you and a partner or group, to think of your ideal restful day, a day were you have looked at the week you had and the day is on the calendar, and youre eyes perk up because you get to chill you get to rest.
Rest is important, rest is everything, and not just to the point of sleep, but but just being still and not doing anything.
Life goes and it goes and sometimes, youre up 2 am 3 am your playing a video game, you wake up it sunday you have you little bit of rest
You ever just been so tired, that when you got home tho you just crashed, until the next day.
Promised Rest for God’s People
God’s promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it. 2 For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God. 3 For only we who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said,
“In my anger I took an oath:
‘They will never enter my place of rest,’ ”
even though this rest has been ready since he made the world. 4 We know it is ready because of the place in the Scriptures where it mentions the seventh day: “On the seventh day God rested from all his work.” 5 But in the other passage God said, “They will never enter my place of rest.”
6 So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. 7 So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted:
“Today when you hear his voice,
don’t harden your hearts.”
8 Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. 9 So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. 10 For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. 11 So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.
God has a promise for us and it is rest, and rest to God just looks different for what we might consider rest for ourselves, I think alot of rest these days watching tik tok, and youtube and what not but the rest that God intended for us.
Gods rest is living carefree, not careless, but its care free, this is what it says in matthew 11:28 Come to me all, who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Maybe some of you don’t know maybe you heard it in my sermon sunday but I got in a car accident and Jeez the the things that have been going through my mind since then have been really negative and cruddy, and finally I called my dad and he said, dude its going to be ok, and for some reason, it was just like this weight was lifted off my shoulders, man like that is how God can be for us.
Some things that we may deal with, anger, anxiety, sadness, can be given to the Lord and come toa place a rest
So we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience, does anyone in here have a fear of missing out. Man people miss out on Gods rest, all of the time, and we miss out on it. Our first reaction when we have free time, when we have a bad time when we have any time is to do something, when maybe.
Sometimes it feels like it is impossible for me to sit still, and unfortunately that is kind of how we are raised, you do things, you get involved, and the things that your doing are good, for some of you its ball, for some of you its, band, for some of you guys its cheer, but just think about what it would mean to rest.
This is what God says about israel,
For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God. 3 For only we who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said,
“In my anger I took an oath:
‘They will never enter my place of rest,’ ”
even though this rest has been ready since he made the world.
I dont want to miss out on Gods rest. And we have rest thats hear on earth,
But we also have a rest thats waiting on us in heaven.
What are some areas in your life right now where you need God’s rest? • What was so unique about Jesus’ offer when the people came to him weary and burdened? • What do you think keeps you from enjoying more of the rest that God offers? • How is your life different since you first discovered peace with God? • How would you explain God’s rest to a person who does not know Christ?
