Intro
Verses 1-5
Verse 1
Jesus was making his way to Jerusalem. Why? to die on the cross.
Verse 2
What tax collectors did and how they were despised.
Verses 3-4
He wanted to see Jesus. Nobody thought that this was the kind of person that would want to, but he did.
Tell story about man who was always drunk.
Tell story about Daniel
Verse 5
Jesus called Zacchaeus’ name.
Jesus cares about the individual. Tell story about being in Brownsville and wondering if we were even making an impact.
Transition: So Jesus does something that nobody expected. He looks at this thief that is sitting in a tree above, and says he needs to go stay at his house. How does Zacchaeus respond.
Verses 6-8
How Zaccaeheus responded when Jesus called his name.
How the people responded.
Zacchaeus showed true life change.
Tell the story of Raul
Transition: All this raises a question. Why? Why does Jesus do this? Why would he be wiling to change the life of a thief like Zacchaeus
Verses 9-10
Verse 9
belonging to the family of God went beyond one’s heritage. It was about who somebody really is.
Verse 10
Jesus came to save sinners and bring those who are far away close to him.
