A Word of Affection
A Word of Affection
See John 19:16-27...
Matthew 22:36–40 ““Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.””
Christ’s Love for the Father
John 4:34 “Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.”
Exodus 20:12 ““Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”
Christ’s Love for Others
Luke 2:34–35 “And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.””
“Never such a bliss at a human birth; never such a sorrow at an inhuman death. No mother ever suffered as she did. His disciples may desert Him, His friends may forsake Him, His nation may despise Him, but His mother stands there at the foot of the cross. Oh, who can fathom or analyze the mother-heart?” — Arthur Pink
John 13:1 “Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.”
Here we see the Lord Jesus loving His people to the very end. In this moment He was suffering and bearing the sins of His people. And even then, His concern was for the well-being of His people, not Himself.
Philippians 2:3–5 “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,”

See Matthew 27:45-49...
There was darkness over the land.
His crucifixion began at the 3rd hour (9 am). From noon until 3 pm, there was darkness over the land. His birth brought a shining star and the glory of the Lord shone around the shepherds as His birth was announced. And now His approaching death brought great darkness.
John 8:12 “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””
Amos 5:20 “Is not the day of the Lord darkness, and not light, and gloom with no brightness in it?”
Jesus was forsaken.
Psalm 22:1 “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?”
Luke 22:42 “saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.””
Psalm 75:8 “For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs.”
Jesus bore the curse of our sins.
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Galatians 3:13 “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—”
Jesus endured the wrath of the Father.
Psalm 5:4–6 “For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.”
Jeremiah 10:10 “But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King. At his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his indignation.”
Psalm 68:2 “As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away; as wax melts before fire, so the wicked shall perish before God!”
Isaiah 53:5–6 “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 53:10 “Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.”
Look to Jesus and live!!!
John 3:14–16 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Numbers 21:8–9 “And the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.”
