What is an Attitude:
What is an Attitude:
It is your mental position towards something.
Soccer analogy
Faith position:
Get yourself in the right mental position that leads to success.
There are certain attitudes that God will bless.
In the Bible talks about these attitudes.
Your attitudes toward people and situations largely determine your success in life.
Class: “I already know it all, I don’t need this.” vs. “I’m grateful I get to be a part of this class. I’m ready to learn.”
People: “They probably don’t like me, I’m not going to try to get to know them.” vs. “I love people, I’m looking forward to getting to know more about those who are around me.”
We can choose our attitudes.
While your attitudes can be effected by circumstances, other people, your own physiology, and more; You in large part get to choose your attitude.
Ex. Happy Gillmore clip
We’ve all seen it…
Having a bad attitude: argument, complaining, throwing a fit.
Someone you want to impress shows up.
God is not only interested in what we do, but also in the attitude of which we do it.
1. Fear of the Lord
1. Fear of the Lord
The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.
Fear of God vs. Fear of Satan
People who worship Satan fear him because he is evil and corrupt.
People who worship God fear him because he is good, perfect and just.
It is a deep reverence and resect for God that leads us to live within the boundaries that he has set for living.
2. Trust in the Lord
2. Trust in the Lord
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Putting our confidence in him as we await the outcome of our living inside of his boundaries.
Trusting him to come through with good outcomes.
3. An attitude of Humility
3. An attitude of Humility
1 Peter 5:5 (ESV)
Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
An attitude of deference.
“Back seat, no leg room.”
Jesus was the example of this is Jesus. Matt 20:28
even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
4. An attitude of Teachability
4. An attitude of Teachability
Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.
2 Ways to learn:
Experience: Takes a long time.
From those who had the experiences: Expedited learning.
A teachable person is both able and willing to be taught.
Dad’s story: Real Estate
Young agent, sat down asking my dad for advice.
Next time, my dad sat down with him, my dad was learning from him.
5. An attitude of Patience
5. An attitude of Patience
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
Biblical patience is not waiting around being lazy.
Biblical patience means patiently enduring, doing the right thing and working hard, while waiting for God to bring the outcome.
Story: William Carey and his printing building.
“A person who trusts God can be patient because they know God will reward hard work in his time.” - Randal Lanthripe
