John 21: 1-14
John 21:1–14 (NLT)
1 Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened.
2 Several of the disciples were there—Simon Peter, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples.
3 Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night.
4 At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was.
5 He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied.
6 Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.
7 Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore.
8 The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards from shore.
9 When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread.
10 “Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Jesus said.
11 So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn’t torn.
12 “Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.
13 Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish.
14 This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead.
INTRODUCTION:
PQ: When do we need a revival?

I- WHEN WE MAKE CHOICES THAT LEAD US AWAY FROM OUR COMMITMENT TO JESUS. (John 21:1-3)

John 21:1–3 (NLT)
1 Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened.
2 Several of the disciples were there—Simon Peter, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples.
3 Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night.

A- By following worldly ways instead of pursuing spiritual growth.

         (Romans 12:1-2)
Romans 12:1–2 (NLT)
1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
         (1 Corinthians 3:1-4)
1 Corinthians 3:1–4 (NLT)
1 Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ.
2 I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready,
3 for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world?
4 When one of you says, “I am a follower of Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,” aren’t you acting just like people of the world?
1- We become a negative influence by doing so.

B- By making decisions without seeking and securing divine guidance.

          (John 21:3)
John 21:3 (NLT)
3 Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night.
          (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Proverbs 3:5–6 (NLT)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

C- By doing so, fruitlessness is assured.

          (John 21:3)
John 21:3 (NLT)
3 Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night.
          (John 15:4-5)
John 15:4–5 (NLT)
4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.
           * Lot was fruitless in Sodom (Genesis 13-14,19)

II- WHEN WE FAIL TO RECOGNIZE THE LORD'S VOICE WHEN HE SPEAKS TO US. (John 21:4)

John 21:4 (NLT)
4 At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was.

A- We don't sense His presence in the course of life.

1- God is always with us.
a. He has promised his continual presence.
(Hebrews 13:5)
Hebrews 13:5 (NLT)
5 Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
b. He has given us the permanent presence of the Holy Spirit.
(John 14:16-18)
John 14:16–18 (NLT)
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.
17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.

B- We can't identify His voice.

            (John 10:27)
John 10:27 (NLT)
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
            1- Why?
                 * hard hearts
                 * Anger & rebellion
                 * Open or secret sin present in our lives
Note Psalm 66:18
Psalm 66:18 (NLT)
18 If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.

III- WHEN WE HAVE A HUNGER FOR WHAT ONLY JESUS CAN GIVE. (John 21:5-14)

John 21:5–14 (NLT)

A- Are you willing to seek His presence? (John 21:5-8)

John 21:5–8 (NLT)
1- The disciples had labored unsuccessfully.
2- Jesus knew where they needed to drop the nets.
3- Jesus gave results that was beyond their imagination.
4- Peter and the other disciples immediately sought to get to Jesus.
5- You and I need to seek God’s presence and the provision only He can provide.
             (2 Chronicles 7:14)
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT)
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

B- Are you willing to receive His Touch and His gifts?

             (John 21:9-13)
John 21:9–13 (NLT)
9 When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread.
10 “Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Jesus said.
11 So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn’t torn.
12 “Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.
13 Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish.
1- Jesus not only gave them an amazing catch of fish, but had prepared breakfast for them.
2- Jesus served them food.
3- we have to ask ourselves, are we willing to let the Lord have His way with us (individually and as a church).
             * Like those people present at Pentecost?
                (Acts 2:37-47)
Acts 2:37–47 (NLT)
37 Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”
38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”
40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!”
41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.
42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.
43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders.
44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had.
45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.
46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—
47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
CONCLUSION:
A- Invitation:
1- Summary:
When do we need revival?
WHEN WE MAKE CHOICES THAT LEAD US AWAY FROM OUR COMMITMENT TO JESUS.
WHEN WE FAIL TO RECOGNIZE THE LORD'S VOICE WHEN HE SPEAKS TO US.
WHEN WE HAVE A HUNGER FOR WHAT ONLY JESUS CAN GIVE.
2- We need to ask ourselves some questions:
What choices have I made that have led me away from total commitment to Jesus?
What voices have I allowed to drown-out the Lord’s voice in my life?
Is there a hunger in my heart for the Lord’s presence and activity in my life?
Start now by seeking God at the altar. Won’t you come?
