As Denis read, the beginning of that holiest of weeks, Jesus rode into Jerusalem and the people shouted “Hosanna to the Son of David”

Salvation, Salvation belongs to you.
The words echo, if not come directly from Psalm 118:25-26
Psalm 118:25–26 ESV
Save us, we pray, O Lord! O Lord, we pray, give us success! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We bless you from the house of the Lord.
A realization of the source of salvation, a call for that salvation to be given, and a blessing poured out because of who the Lord Is.
In the moment of History, this was the Redeemer, the Messiah promised, the Son of God entering in to the city of Jerusalem. We know what took place in the week to come.
Perhaps, some there were caught up in the hype, as it were. But for many, their hopes were lifted as they began to think, “this is our savior. This is the Son of David.”
A blessed Savior and King.
Now, did all there come to follow and believe on Him fully? Probably not.
Some had ideas of salvation that were more political and temporal than eternal.
Some had visions of an overthrow, some may have simply heard of the wonders of the miracles and desired more of the same.
But for many, that realization would be shaped and honed by the crucifixion, the resurrection, and the teaching to come by the Apostles whom Jesus called.
Shaped and honed to see that, within the political strife, within the temporal needs, within the here and now, there is a need of a “forever” saving that requires a “forever” Savior.
Salvation belongs to the Lord.

The Lord Jesus is our blessed Savior and King. May we bless Him and honor Him as such.

Lord, You Are Blessed

Realization
He is Good and Forever Faithful
Psalm 118:1 ESV
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!
He is a Present Helper
Psalm 118:5 ESV
Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.
Turn to Psalm 146
Psalm 146:5 ESV
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God,
The Lord is Blessed
He is the powerful creator
Colossians 1:16 ESV
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
He is the Righteous Judge
Sets the Prisoners Free
Luke 4:18 ESV
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
He is the faithful, good, powerful Savior, so we say...

Lord, Save Us

Salvation
Psalm 118:8–9 ESV
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.
Psalm 146:3–4 ESV
Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.
What do we long for in deliverance? And who do we long for as deliverer?
The “Next” Political Figure
The “Next” policy or ruling
The “Next” Event to bring you joy
The “Next” breakthrough to bring you encouragement
The “Next” day to be done with this one
The “Next” big thing, to give you something to look forward to
We are not promised any of these things, from things as significant as major events, to things as mundane as another sunrise. But we are promised this - that forever Savior.
Psalm 20:6–7 ESV
Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
So...

Lord, We Bless You

Exaltation
Psalm 118:26–27 ESV
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We bless you from the house of the Lord. The Lord is God, and he has made his light to shine upon us. Bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to the horns of the altar!
In Davids day, a “thanksgiving” sacrifice was an appropriate means of thanking the Lord.
Psalm 118 Particularly was a Hallel Psalm, sung in the mornings of the Feast of Booths.
The Feast of Booths was a fall feast, it commemorated the provision of the Lord in the Israelites’ wandering in the wilderness - living in tents - and it also served as a reminder of their current successes, like in the harvest, being from the hand of the Lord.
The feast involved sacrifices, but whole thing, really, was a sacrifice of praise.
A praise to God who blesses, so that blessing can go upward, and outward.
“We bless you” is actually plural. Speaking of the duty of God’s people to be a blessing to those who look on. This goes right back to Abraham.
Genesis 22:18 ESV
and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”
The onlooking world sees God’s people, and if they have eyes to see, they see through them and see their Savior.
Two categories of blessing others:
being good citizens, people, helpers, moral, salt
being bearers of the truth, the gospel, saving faith, a testimony and witness.
Because God has blessed us, we bless.
It is a river that flows through.
A well of water springing up into eternal life. Salvation is not a “ticket to heaven.” Salvation is the opening of a cistern of blessing that flows in and through us. To others, and back to the Lord.
Psalm 118:28–29 ESV
You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!
Psalm 146:1–2 ESV
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
