Romans 10:8–9 “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:10–11 “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
The great question that must be answered in all lives is this. Is Jesus Christ who the Bible says He is? If He is who the Bible says He is, then you have an urgent question that needs to be answered, and that question is what then shall I do to be saved?
This passage in Romans tells you exactly what you need to know in order to be saved.

1. God has given you what you need.

Let’s look closely at verse 8.
Romans 10:8 “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;”
What is Paul saying? He is saying that God has given every person enough faith to believe what Paul was preaching to be true.
Romans 12:3 “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”
Every person has been given by God enough faith to believe the Gospel. The Gospel is the message that proclaimed often.
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
The gospel message is that Jesus Christ, the perfect Son of God, died for your sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. The gospel message proclaims that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, died a cruel death, and rose in glory on the third day to live evermore.
If you deny that message, you deny what you know to be true because every man has been given the necessary faith the believe the Gospel. That is why no person will ever have an excuse. If you deny the Gospel, you are going against what you know to be true.
Romans 1:20 “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”

2. You must believe and know that Jesus Christ was resurrected on the third day.

If you want to be saved, you must absolutely, without any doubt, believe that Jesus Christ was resurrected on the third day.
If I were to go to court over something, and I had two or three witnesses that verified my story or that were eyewitnesses, I am going to win my case. That is how much value that eyewitness testimony has. Well, let me ask you this.
If there were over 500 eyewitnesses to an event, would you say there is a good chance that what those eyewitnesses saw was true?
Did you know over 500 people were eyewitnesses to the resurrected Jesus Christ?
1 Corinthians 15:4–5 “And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:”
1 Corinthians 15:6–8 “After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.”
In any court in the land, 500 witnesses testifying to the same event would lead to one decision. 500 witnesses to the resurrected Christ can only lead to one decision, and that decision is that Jesus Christ is alive today. Yes, Jesus Christ lived. Yes, Jesus Christ died.
Each of the four gospels declare the fact that Jesus Christ died. He died for your sins, and the great incredible truth is that over 500 eyewitnesses saw Him alive again. The grave could not keep Jesus Christ. He is the power unto life. His resurrection seals your faith. If Jesus Christ was dead today, you would be okay, but since He is alive, you have a major decision to make, and God, in His love for you, has given you enough faith to believe that Jesus Christ is alive today.

3. You must confess with your mouth Lord Jesus.

Publicly proclaiming the Lord Jesus is critical to salvation.
Romans 10:9–11 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”
With the mouth confession is made unto salvation. You have been given enough faith to believe the gospel message. You know it is true, but salvation comes when you act on your faith and confess Jesus as Lord.
It is that simple. There are no secret followers of Jesus Christ. When Paul says, in verse 8, that the word is in your hear and in your mouth, he is saying what you know to be true is on your lips waiting to burst out in confession. Dear friend, if there is no confession, there is no salvation.
Matthew 10:32–33Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.”
When you die and appear before God in judgment, the only way you will get into Heaven is if Jesus claims you as His. Why would you expect Him to claim you in Heaven if you will not proclaim Him on earth?
Confession is made unto salvation. What do you confess?
We always say you have to confess your sin, but you being a sinner is a settled fact.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
What you have to confess is the Lord Jesus. What does that mean?
We know that many times in the Bible, Jesus is referred to the Lord Jesus Christ. That is very significant, and that is what you must confess to be saved.
Lord means that Jesus Christ is God.
Jesus stresses the humanity of Christ. God had to become man to die for man’s sins.
Christ means Christ is the Messiah. He is the One for whom the ages waited. He is the One who was in the beginning, and He is the One who will be always.
It is the absolute fact that Jesus is the Lord Jesus Christ that I am saved, and if you are going to be saved, you must proclaim who Jesus is and absolutely know that He was resurrected on the third day.
If you do not confess that on earth, Jesus cannot confess it Heaven, and if Jesus cannot confess you in Heaven, you will die and go to Hell.
The God of the Universe has given you enough faith to believe and confess what Jesus has done and who Jesus is, but God will not make you get saved. It is a choice that you must make, and the tragedy associated with that decision is that you do not know when you will be able to make that choice. That is why the Bible says now is the day of salvation.
You must get saved while you can be saved.
