2 Thessalonians 2:1-12

ANTICHRIST.........Everything that opposes Christ

Matthew 12:30 “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.”

This is where the Pharisees were attributing God’s works to satan. (Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit)

Undeniable works only that God could do to satan.

Jesus just tells them, here, that if you are not with Him you are against Him.’

That is an antichrist.

1 John 2:18-23........Spirit of antichrist....

Denial of Jesus.....

Reliance on earthly powers....our own powers......

Relying on our own works.......You are your deliverer......

Worship of self more than God!

Romans 1:25 “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”

The Wicked will do that very thing......set himself up in the temple in Jerusalem and call for the worship of himself!

The spirit is all amongst us......

You know it seems that these supposed “godly men” in the Pharisees worked harder to prove Christ wrong than they did to search Him out through the OT.

Many places does God’s Word tell of us of this evil spirit...........

Matthew 24:15 “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)”

Jesus speaking of when the time of His 2nd coming will draw near.

Daniel 11:31–32 “And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”

Daniel 11:36–38 “And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.”

Revelation 19:20 “And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.”

This is the prophecy of the man of sin.....son of perdition........

This spirit is in the world today........

Now, I said all of that to bring us to a point that I spoke of a few Sunday’s ago........there is a truth that Bro Eric quoted this morning.....1 John 4:4 “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

There is much debate about this event...........and who that it is that lets...........

It seems as quickly as the Holy Spirit fell in Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost, it will depart at the rapture of the church.......

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is what holds the coming to power of the antichrist.

There is something so comforting in that!!

I just want us to read about the Holy Spirit and it’s function or purpose.

A lot of folks talk about the works of the Holy Spirit John 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

John 15:26–27 “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.”
