Introduction
Your selfish thoughts, desires and selfish emotions and feelings need to die
Need to die to self, the only way you will have victory - what you want, think and feel doesn’t matter.
Not only are Christians born again when we come to salvation, but we also continue dying to self as part of the process of sanctification. As such, dying to self is both a one-time event and a lifelong process.
Jesus made it clear that if any would follow Him, they must deny themselves, which means giving up their lives—spiritually, symbolically, and even physically, if necessary.
Where we once pursued selfish pleasures, we now pursue, with equal passion, that which pleases God.
What Jesus Said about Dying to Self
What Jesus Said about Dying to Self
Matthew 16:24 “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”
Luke 9:23 “Then he said to them all, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Calling the crowd along with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me and the gospel will save it.
Revelation 3:15–16 (CSB)
I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth.
Jesus describes lukewarm followers who try to live partly in the old life and partly in the new as those whom He will spit out.
To Live is Christ, to die is Gain
To Live is Christ, to die is Gain
Philippians 1:21 “For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
Romans 12:1 “Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship.”
Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Galatians 5:24 “Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
