Tell story about Jackie and Miles.
Servant: Ms Jackie was a true servant of God. If anyone had a reason (not excuse) to miss church she had one. But, she was here playing the piano.
The Sunday before she passed, she was week. She had a had time walking to the piano, but she was here.
The last hymn she played was my favorite hymn. “When the role is called up yonder”
She loved, she was loved, she is already missed.
She was a prayer warrior. Larry told me that over the past few years when he would at her house, he would hear her pray.
She would pray that her children, grand children and great grand children would have a closer walk with the Lord.
And he would hear reciting the 23 psalm and other scripture.
Is is now in heaven praising and worshiping Jesus.
Romans 5:1 (NKJV)
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Justified: To be made right. How?
By faith, and through that faith we have peace knowing that Ms Jackie, because of her faith in Jesus is with Him today.
1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
1 Thessalonians 4:13 (NKJV)
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
Paul writing to the Thessalonians about their family members, friends who had died. They knew Jesus was coming back, and they were worried that they would miss out on Jesus coming back.
Last part of that verse
lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
There are 2 groups of people. Lost and saved.
Lost are those who have no relationship with Jesus. They have no hope.
Saved, those who have a personal relationship with Jesus. We have hope.
Yes we do sorrow, we do grieve, but we can to do with hope.
John 14:1
John 14:1 (NKJV)
1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
John says, “don’t let your heart be troubled”
Troubled means to be worried, to shake, to be disturbed.
The passing of Ms Jackie, It hurts, we are sad, we will miss her. But, we don’t have to be troubled.
We grieve, but we can be joyful at the same time.
On the Wed night after I found out she had passed, My wife and met with her family. Lynn, Larry, Pam.
Tears were shed, but they family also had peace. Not a false peace, but a real peace. How? Because we know that Ms Jackie, when she took her last breath was with Jesus.
Not because she was a good person, not because she was a church member, not because she was baptized. But because of her belief and faith in Jesus.
Look at 1 again’ “you believe in God, believe also in me”
Jesus speaking of his oneness with God. You can’t believe Jesus with believing in God. You can’t believe in God without Jesus.
John 14:2 (NKJV)
2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Jesus now talks to them about where He is going. “His fathers house” Heaven.
Mansions: Dwelling places. Place to stay.
There is a lot of room in heaven.
Jesus is telling His disciples this to encourage them, to give them hope.
I go to prepare a place for you
When Ms Jackie arrived in Heaven, there was already a place prepared for her.
I think when she got there it was, wow.
“I can only imagine”
That moment a Christian dies the souls leave the physical body—it’s a separation of the soul and spirit from the body.
Then as a Christian, you are in the presence of the Lord. We go from life to life; we step from this world to the next world, and we will be looking at Jesus face to face.
John 14:3 (NKJV)
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
Jesus says, I’m going to prepare a place for you, and I will come back and get you.
Jesus is speaking to His disciples here. But He is speaking you you.
We will all die one day. If you don’t die before the Rapture of the Church, then you will go then.
“I will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there yo may be also”
The best thing for a Christian, is to die.
21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
23 For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.
Paul is saying, when I die, I am far better off.
What Jesus is telling His disciples are word of encouragement when He told them to not let their hearts be troubled, I’m to a place that I have prepared for you, and I will come back to get you.
Now He says.....
4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
How did they know? Because they had been with Jesus, He had been telling them. But they didn’t have a spiritual understanding. Many people are that way.
5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
The others may have been thinking it, Thomas had the courage to ask.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Jesus is the only to Heaven.
Being baptisted will not get you there.
Being good will not get you there.
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Faith through Jesus is the only way.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Believe: Act out on what you believe in.
What about you? Are you sure? 100%
