Mark 11:1–11 NIV84
1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ tell him, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’ ” 4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5 some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” 10 “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest!” 11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.

1. Jesus is our King

Sub-point 1: A Humble King

Zechariah 9:9 “9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey, a symbol of peace, fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah
He shows us that true kingship is not about power or wealth, but humility

Sub-point 2: A Servant King

Mark 10:45 “45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.””
Jesus came not to be served, but to serve
He calls us to follow His example of servant leadership

Sub-point 3: A Sacrificial King

John 3:16 “16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Jesus gave his life for us, the ultimate act of love
This is the kind of King we serve - one who would lay down His life for His people

2. Jesus' Kingdom is not of this world

Sub-point 1: A Spiritual Kingdom

John 18:36 “36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.””
Jesus' Kingdom is not physical but spiritual
It's not about earthly power, but about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit

Sub-point 2: A Kingdom of Truth

John 14:6 “6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
In Jesus' Kingdom, truth reigns
Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life

Sub-point 3: A Kingdom for the Poor in Spirit

Matthew 5:3 “3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Jesus' Kingdom is for those who recognize their spiritual need and seek God's righteousness

3. The crowd's response to Jesus

Sub-point 1: Praising Jesus

Luke 19:37 “37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:”
As Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds praised Him
We too are called to praise Jesus as our King

Sub-point 2: Misunderstanding Jesus

John 12:16 “16 At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.”
The crowd misunderstood the kind of King Jesus was, expecting Him to overthrow Roman rule
We must seek to know Jesus as He truly is

Sub-point 3: Rejecting Jesus

Luke 23:21 “21 But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!””
The same crowd that praised Jesus later called for His crucifixion
We must guard against being swayed by the crowd and stand firm in our faith

4. Recognize Jesus as King of Kings

Sub-point 1: Recognize Jesus as King

Philippians 2:10 “10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,”
We must acknowledge Jesus as the King of our lives

Sub-point 2: Serve like Jesus

John 13:14 “14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.”
We are called to follow Jesus' example of servant leadership

Sub-point 3: Proclaim Jesus as King

Matthew 28:19 “19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”
We are called to share the good news of Jesus' Kingship with others
