Let’s pray!
The first item is…

1. Palm Branch

On the day we call “Palm Sunday”, Jesus rode into the city.
What was Jesus riding? A donkey
The people were excited to see Him,
because they believed that He had come:
to save them; and
to fill their lives with joy.
Matthew 21:8 says…
On the way to Jerusalem, many people spread their coats on the road for Jesus. Others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
This was also their way of showing honour to Jesus…
They were treating Him like a King!
Next we have…

2. Silver Coins

How many of you have money at home? Raise your hands.
What do we use money for? To buy things
Some people hated Jesus so much,
they used money to pay for Him to die.
Matthew 26:14-16 says…
14 Then one of the twelve followers went to talk to the leading priests. This was the follower named Judas Iscariot.
15 He said, “I will hand Jesus over to you. What will you pay me for doing this?” The priests gave him 30 silver coins.
16 After that Judas waited for the best time to hand Jesus over to them.
One of Jesus’s own friends wanted money more than he wanted Jesus!
Let’s see what we have in the next egg…

3. Bread

Who here likes bread?
What do we do with bread? We eat it!
Close to the end of Jesus’s life,
he had a special meal with His disciples—who were His closest friends.
Matthew 26:26—28 says…
26 While they were eating, Jesus took some bread and thanked God for it. He broke off some pieces, gave them to his followers and said, “Take this bread and eat it. It is my body.”
27 Then he took a cup of wine, thanked God for it, and gave it to them. He said, “Each one of you drink some of it.
28 This wine is my blood, which will be poured out to forgive the sins of many and begin the new agreement from God to his people.
Jesus wanted them to remember this special meal.
The bread and wine were a reminder of His sacrifice for us.
Let’s see what we have in the next egg…

4. Wash Cloth/Towel

What do you use a towel for? To dry yourself off
After their special meal, Jesus did something we would not expect a King to do…
John 13:4—5
So while they were eating, Jesus stood up and took off his robe. He got a towel and wrapped it around his waist.
Then he poured water into a bowl and began to wash the followers’ feet. He dried their feet with the towel that was wrapped around his waist.
Jesus was teaching His close friends an important lesson…
everyone who loves Jesus, will show love to others, and serve them.
Let’s see what we have in the next egg…

5. Cup

What do we use a cup for? Drinking
Jesus spent a lot of time of praying to God,
during one of His last prayers on earth, He was very sad,
and He talked about a different kind of cup.
Matthew 26:36, 39
36 Then Jesus went with his followers to a place called Gethsemane. He said to them, “Sit here while I go there and pray.”
39 Then Jesus went on a little farther away from them. He fell to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, don’t make me drink from this cup. But do what you want, not what I want.”
The cup Jesus was talking about was His death.
Since Jesus was God, He wanted to die so that He could save us because He loves us…
but because Jesus was a man, He didn’t want to die, because He knew it would be very painful.
But Jesus was willing to obey God, and die for you and me!
Let’s see what we have in the next egg…

6. Strip of Leather

Raise your hand if you have a belt…
Do you know what belts are sometimes made out of? Leather
One of the sad things we learn about Jesus,
is that after He was arrested, soldiers used a leather whip to hurt Jesus.
Matthew 27:2, 26
2 They tied him, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate, the governor.
26 Then Pilate set Barabbas free. And he told some soldiers to beat Jesus with whips. Then he handed him over to the soldiers to be killed on a cross.
They hurt Jesus
even though He didn’t do anything wrong!
Let’s see what we have in the next egg…

7. Crown of Thorns

Have any of you kids ever touched a pokey plant before? Yea
Did it hurt? Yea
What do you usually say when you get hurt? Ouch
After Jesus had been whipped,
we read in...
Matthew 27:28-29
28 They took off Jesus’ clothes and put a red robe on him.
29 Then they made a crown from thorny branches and put it on his head, and they put a stick in his right hand. Then they bowed before him, making fun of him. They said, “We salute you, king of the Jews!”
The soldiers continued to hurt Jesus and make fun of Him.
Do you think Jesus was strong enough to stop them from hurting Him? YES
But He didn’t because was taking the punishment for all the wrong things that any person had ever done or ever would do. This includes you and me.
Let’s see what we have in the next egg…

8. Cross

Does anybody know what the cross reminds us of? How Jesus died
John 19:17-18 tells us…
17 He carried his own cross to a place called “The Place of the Skull.” (In Aramaic the name of this place is “Golgotha.”)
18 There they nailed Jesus to the cross. They also nailed two other men to crosses. They put them on each side of Jesus with him in the middle.
The soldiers took Jesus to the top of a hill outside the city.
Then using nails, they nailed Him to a rough wooden cross.
He died a few hours later.
The Bible tells us that Jesus was stronger that any man.
The soldiers couldn't have killed Jesus if He had not let them.
He could have fought off the soldiers.
But He didn’t, because God loves people so much,
He was willing to let Jesus be punished for our sins… the things we do or the ways we act that don't please God.
And even though it hurt Jesus badly,
He was willing to do what God the Father asked.
Jesus loves us, too.
Let’s see what we have in the next egg…

9. Dice

How many of you like to play board games?
Who wants to see if Jonah can roll a 6? If he gets a 6, I’ll give him a candy!
Jonah was really hoping he would roll a 6 to get a candy…
After the soldiers nailed Jesus to the cross,
they really hoped to get his clothes,
so they rolled dice to see who would get them.
The darkness came over the land for 3 hours,
and Jesus cried out,
“My God, my God, why have you left me alone?”
Then Jesus cried out in a loud voice, and died.
It is sad to think that Jesus died, and that He died in such a cruel way.
But remember that Jesus gave up His life because of His love for sinners - ALL sinners.
This includes you and me.
Let’s see what we have in the next egg…

10. Linen Cloth

This looks kind of like a bed sheet…
how many of you like sleeping in your nice cozy beds?
After Jesus died, He was taken down from the cross by Joseph.
In Matthew 27:59-60 we read...
59 Then Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a new linen cloth.
60 He put Jesus’ body in a new tomb that he had dug in a wall of rock.
So Jesus was wrapped in a cloth and put in a tomb…
was Jesus going to stay in the tomb? No!
It’s like Jesus was snuggling up for a cozy nap…
Let’s see what we have in the next egg…

11. Stone

How many of you have skipped rocks on the water before?
After Jesus was placed in the tomb,
they rolled a GIIIAAAANNNTTT stone in front so that no one could get in.
It was probably heavier than a car!
Who thinks they throw a car and skip it across the water?
I don’t think I could lift a stone that heavy,
but do you know who rolled the stone away from Jesus’ tomb? An angel
Let’s see what we have in the very last egg…

12. Empty

This last egg is empty, because the next day,
when two women came to anoint Jesus’s body,
the tomb was… EMPTY!!!
Matthew 28:5-6 says…
The angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid. I know you are looking for Jesus, the one who was killed on the cross.
But he is not here. He has risen from death, as he said he would. Come and see the place where his body was.
Jesus had come back to life!
This was the promise that Jesus made to His disciples at their special dinner just a few days before…
that He would die but come back to life,
to show those who believed in Him that they would live forever too.
Someday because He died for us, we can meet Him and thank Him in heaven.
That's the story of Easter. And it's true!
John 3:16 says…
16 Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life.
If would like to talk to someone about what it means to believe in Jesus,
