Introduction

Question: What as it that made you follow Jesus?
Whatever was the impetus for that decision will be the impetus for why you continue to follow Him.
One day I was on my way to work, and I was uniquely bothered by the things I was experiencing in my life. I had some expectations that were not coming through and I was on teh brink of giving up. The greatest disappointment was around the fact I had based so much of my hopes on doing something for God. Yet, it seemed the more I tried to avail myself to the plan of God, the worse things got.
As I thought about the difficulty of this situation, I began telling God I was going to give up. It was as if I was giving God an ultimatum. Then, something became increasingly clear to me—nothing I do for God should be predicated on how good or bad I think He is to me. Everything I do for God is to be based on one simple fact: God deserves my obedience.
Now, I understand the complexity of living this way. The truth is, I hope God answers my prayer for the things I’ve asked for. However, my resolve is if He doesn’t, I will still do what He commanded of me. The question, however is how will you respond when God is not granting your preference?
