Sir Michael Faraday, (brilliant English scientist 1791 – 1867), was asked when he was near death: “What are your speculations now?” He answered: “I have no speculations. I rest upon Jesus Christ who died, and rose again from death.”
Charles Haddon Spurgeon, beloved preacher and author, on his deathbed: “I can hear them coming!” He sat straight up in bed and asked: “Don’t you hear them? This is my coronation day. I can see the chariots, I’m ready to board.”
Dwight L. Moody, famous preacher and founder of the Moody Bible Institute, while on his deathbed: “Can this be death? Why it is better than living! Earth is receding, heaven is opening. This is my coronation day”
Jesus spoke seven times during those six terrible hours:
1. A WORD OF FORGIVENESS
“Father, Forgive them”
Luke 23:34: “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”
2. A WORD OF FELLOWSHIP
“Today shalt thou be with me in paradise”
Luke 23:43: “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
3. A WORD OF PREPARATION
“Woman, behold thy son”
John 19:25–27“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.”
4. A WORD OF SEPARATION
“Why hast thou forsaken me?”
Matthew 27:46: “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
5. A WORD OF PERSPECTIVE- humanity
“I thirst”
John 19:28: “After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.”
6. A WORD OF COMPLETION
“It is finished”
John 19:30: “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
7. A WORD OF FULFILLED PROPHECY
“Father, into thy hands”
(Luke 23:46: “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”
Psalm 31:5“Into thine hand I commit my spirit: Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.” :
