Living for God

Romans 8:12–13 “12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

Debtors to God

If you live according to the flesh, you will die

Live — Practice, continue, dwell

But if you by the Spirit put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Romans 8:14 “14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

Led by the Spirit is similar to having the Spirit.

Galatians 5:25 “25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

The Spirit gives Life and desire so that we follow.

Philippians 2:12–13 “12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

We are both led and called to follow.

It is a synergistic work, a two party work.

Galatians 5:24 “24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

1 John 3:10 “10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.”

Romans 8:15 “15 For (How do we become strong enough to follow? What is the part inside of us that we can see and feel that draws us toward Him?)

you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.””

Bondage again to fear:

Galatians 2:3–4 “3 Yet not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised. 4 And this occurred because of false brethren secretly brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage),”

Adoption:

Romans 8:15 “15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.””

Romans 8:23 “23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.”

Galatians 4:5 “5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”

Ephesians 1:5 “5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,”

Romans 8:16 “16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,”

Children

Romans 8:21 “21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.”

1 John 3:1–2 “1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”

Testimony / witness is in us, if the Spirit is in us.

1 Corinthians 2:9–13 “9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”

1 John 2:20 “20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.”

1 John 2:27 “27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.”

1 John 5:20 “20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”

Romans 8:17 “17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”

Heirs

1 John 3:1–3 “1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Matthew 25:34 “34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:”

Revelation 21:7 “7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.”
