Vile Affections (Romans 1:26-27)

1 Samuel 3:13 (2:12,22-24)

Despicable (despised) = regard as negligible or distasteful.

Belial = Satan, worthless, wicked, ruin

God gave them up (Romans) / his sons made themselves vile (1 Samuel)

1 Samuel 15:9

Deteriorate or case deterioration = If it’s not good, it’s bad. Vile affections are bad and also refuse (melt or dissolve).

Matthew 6:19–21 “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Vile things are not treasures to the child of God!

Job 40:1-4

Destitute = no meaning, unimportant, having no effect, having no character.

Job is waiting for an answer from God

Job 31:35 “Oh that one would hear me! Behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, And that mine adversary had written a book.”

Elihu talks to Job in chapters 32-37

God tells Job how awesome he is (38-39)

Isaiah 32:5-6

Vile here means foolish (DUMB)

villany means stupidity

Philippians 3:20-21

Vile here means humiliation (Dishonoring)

1 Corinthians 15:43 “It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:”

1 Corinthians 15:53 “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”

James 2:1-2

Vile here means Dirty or Defiled

Dirty = filthy, nasty, not clean

Defiled = foul, polluted, violated

What are vile affections in our text?

Abortion, Lesbianism, Hatred of Children, Gay, LGTBQ+ in the eyes of God is despicable (negligent), cause deterioration (STD’s)(life of child), destitute (shows no character, has no meaning), dumb (foolish and stupid), dishonoring (humiliating), dirty and defiling (filthy, nasty, an abomination to God)
