It is Finished

One of the things in life that I really can’t stand is bad debt. I’m not talking about debt like a home, but the debt you get because, if we are honest with each, we got because we are not patient. it could be a product of leaving beyond our means.
My wife and I have been on a mission to be debt free. this year I got a noticed that an old student loan was eligible forgiving or paid off.
after a few days I got another that said congratulation!
I ran and logged into my account and it said Paid in Full.
Although that was good news, it does not compare to what jesus did for us on the cross.

Tonight I want to share with you one thing that jesus said.

One thing that Jesus did not say.

and one bonus thought to take home with you and rejoice in.

So, what did Jesus say?

Let’s look at the text.
John 19:30 ESV
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
I want you to imagine for a moment that we are leaving in the days that Jesus was walking in flesh among us. Rome is the ruler of the known world, a superpower is what we would call them today. Rome was in to building things and going to war. They funded these campaigns by charging taxes. And when you paid your taxes, you receipt. On that receipt was stamped the Greek word “Teleo.” That single Greek word means Paid in full.
to be finished ⇔ Be fulfilled
to be or become finished, conceived of as being or becoming full of time.
Jesus came to Earth to save humanity from sin and reconcile us with God. By dying on the cross, he took upon himself the punishment that you and I deserved for our sins. When Jesus said"It is finished," he declared that his work was accomplished and that he had fulfilled the purpose for which he had come. This is a powerful reminder of the sacrifice that Jesus made for our salvation and a source of hope and comfort in difficult times.
Jesus had been made sin for people and because of that He suffered the penalty of God’s justice which sin deserves.

Now, let’s look at what Jesus did not say.

John 19:30 ESV
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Jesus said it is finished, He did not say the He was finished.

Jesus appeared to the apostles for 40 days.
He assured doubting Thomas
He ate with them
Godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead and walked around.(Matthew 27:51–53 “And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.”
Jesus Ascended to heaven.
He sent the Holy Spirit to indwell with us today
He is currently interceding on our behalf to the father.
John 19:30 ESV
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Here is the bonus for tonight

He bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Meaning to give or supply.
The Greek word (paradidomi) It is a verb, an action even while on the cross He gave up his spirit.
During the passover the people of Isreal had to find a lamb to shed blood an place over the door post to attune for their sins an allow the hand of death to pass over them.
Jesus Said in this moment that I will be the lamb and supply my blood and it will be enough to cover your sins. now one took His life, but He gave his life for you and I.
In conclusion, Jesus finished the redemptive work and as the song say “The Blood will Never Lose It’s Power”
It reaches to the highest mountain and it flows to the lowest valley. The blood that gives me strength from day to day, It will never lose it’s power.
