Good morning, everybody!
Im Jed
I work here at the church
I hope you're all excited for today's Easter egg hunt!
But before we start searching for those eggs.
I want to take a quick moment to talk about what Easter is really all about.
Now, when you think of Easter, what comes to mind? (Take responses)
Chocolate bunnies, marshmallow chicks, and of course, Easter eggs!
But did you know that Easter is about so much more than just candy and egg hunts?
Easter is a special time because it's when we celebrate the most important event in history – the resurrection of Jesus Christ!
You see, Jesus was a very special person.
He taught us about love, kindness, and forgiveness.
He performed miracles and showed us the power of God's love.
But sadly, some people didn't understand Jesus message, and they hurt him very badly.
They crucified him on a cross, and Jesus died.
It was a very sad and dark time for his followers.
But here's the amazing part – three days later, something incredible happened.
Some women went to visit Jesus’ grave and saw that is was empty.
They instead see an angel
Matthew 28:5–6 ESV
But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.
Matthew 28:9 ESV
And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.
Jesus rose from the dead!
His tomb was empty, and he appeared to his disciples, alive and well.
This event changed everything! It showed us that Jesus is more powerful than even death itself.
So, what do Easter eggs have to do with all of this?
Well Easter eggs can remind us of the new life that Jesus gives us.
Just like a chick hatches from its egg and starts a new life, Jesus resurrection gives us the hope of new life too.
When we believe in Jesus and follow him, we can have a fresh start and a brand-new life full of joy, love, and peace.
But there's one more thing about Easter eggs that's really special.
They're often decorated with bright colors and beautiful designs, right?
Well, those colors can remind us of the beauty and wonder of God's creation.
Each egg is unique, just like each one of us is unique and special in God's eyes.
It says in Psalms
Psalm 139:14 ESV
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
So, as you go out to hunt for Easter eggs today, I want you to remembered the true meaning behind them.
Remember that Easter is a time to celebrate Jesus' resurrection and the new life he offers us.
And remember that each Easter egg is a reminder of the beauty of God's creation and the unique gifts he has given to each of you.
Let's pray together
Dear God, thank you for the gift of Easter and for sending your Son, Jesus, to save us.
Help us to remember the true meaning of Easter as we hunt for eggs today.
And may we always be grateful for the new life and hope that Jesus brings. Amen.
