Good Friday Fast
A fast means that you deny your body any form of calories until the fasting period is over. This means not a single bite of food. Only water may be consumed.
The times for this fast are from your last meal on Thursday night (symbolizing the last supper) until 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon which is when Jesus breathed His last.
The reason for fasting: Jesus spent His last hours on earth experiencing the full depravity of man so that in the end He may free us from our sins. In the end, we know that what He faced was for our benefit, but it was a tremendous amount of suffering. Not only did Jesus experience a great deal of pain, but He did it all on an empty stomach.
Each year we do a voluntary fast to deny ourselves the pleasures of food for roughly the time period that Jesus would have to be without food as well. During this time we are encouraged to think about Jesus and what He has done to set us free. Especially during the moments that hunger spikes, remember that hunger is all we will be facing at this moment. Jesus was facing worse for our sake.
Thank you for participating with me during this fasting period, and thinking fondly on our Lord during His darkest hours. Encourage those around you to join as well if they can. I will be checking in with you to see how you are doing, and follow up with you around 3.
Have a wonderfully blessed Good Friday.
