how can I grow closer to god?

The Pursuit of God

In regards to our heart!

Are the words of scripture mere words? Or are they POWERFUL / TRANSFORMATIVE / LIFE-GIVING

Theres a difference:

Seeking after God

Seeking after the benefits that only God can give them:

Peace of mind… purpose… relief from guilt… and so on

They want the benefits of God, without HIM!

A true Christian:

Seeks after God

… is one who previously despised the very THOUGHT of God, but now having been redeemed, LOVES the very thought of God!

Mark 12:30–31 (NASB95)

30 and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’

How do we seek after God?

Why does Jesus tell us we are to love God with all of our MINDS?

Why does the apostle Paul say that the only way we can undergo this spiritual transformation, this change, is to have a new MIND?

You don’t get the love of God, from a hip replacement / knee replacement / heart transplant. The only way you can be transformed, is with a new mind. And the only way you can obtain a new mind… is to pursue with all of your power / strength… the knowledge of God.

Do you love, spending time in the scriptures?

Do you love, the moments where your mind is FILLED with thoughts of God?

When Jesus said to love the Lord your God with all of your mind… it can sound a bit strange?

Love comes from the heart!

Emotion comes from the heart!

How can we love God with our minds? It’s simple.

To know Him… is to love Him.

And we want to love God. But how can you love Him, if you don’t know Him?

Nothing can be in the heart, that is not first in the mind.

Singing? If you don’t UNDERSTAND what you’re singing, how can you be deeply moved by what the song means?

Other churches:

Increase emotion / entertainment / excitement!

But if the knowledge of God is not increased… then the love of God cannot be increased

Because you can’t love what you don’t know!

If i want to love God more, I’ve got to know Him more deeply

And the more you know Him, the more inclined you will be to praise Him / worship Him / obey Him
