Holy Week Events

SLIDE 1 “HOLY WEEK”
I never realized until reading from Palm Sunday to Last Supper how much happened with interactions with our Lord, the people and religious leaders
Anyone want to sound off these events?
Jesus makes his triumphant entry into Jerusalem and what happens next?........ He goes into the temple
SLIDE 2
Matthew 21:12–13 NASB95
12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbersden.”
SLIDE 3
Matthew 21:14–15 NASB95
14 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they became indignant
SLIDE 4
Matthew 21:15–17 NASB95
15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they became indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself’?” 17 And He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there.
In Mark 11/18 the chief priest began to plan how they can destroy Jesus
Luke 19/47 Jesus teaches daily in the temple
SLIDE 5
John 2:13–14 NASB95
13 The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables.
SLIDE 6
John 2:15–16 NASB95
15 And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables; 16 and to those who were selling the doves He said, “Take these things away; stop making My Father’s house a place of business.”
SLIDE 7
John 2:17–21 NASB95
17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house will consume me.” 18 The Jews then said to Him, “What sign do You show us as your authority for doing these things?” 19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 20 The Jews then said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?” 21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.
What do you think? Discussion?
Now you may be asking why did we just see that in John 2.
Anyone remember an incident with a fig tree?
SLIDE 8
Matthew 21:18–19 NASB95
18 Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry. 19 Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He said to it, “No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.” And at once the fig tree withered.
SLIDE 9
Matthew 21:20–22 NASB95
20 Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, “How did the fig tree wither all at once?” 21 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. 22 “And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
Luke does not mention the fig tree
In Mark our Lord adds at this event about …when we pray forgiving others is very important
SLIDE 10
Mark 11:25–26 NASB95
25 “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions. 26 “But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions.”
Next event our Lord’s authority get’s challenged by the religious leaders
SLIDE 11
Matthew 21:23 NASB95
23 When He entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?”
SLIDE 12
Matthew 21:24–25 NASB95
24 Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. 25 “The baptism of John was from what source, from heaven or from men?” And they began reasoning among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’
SLIDE 13
Matthew 21:26–27 NASB95
26 “But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the people; for they all regard John as a prophet.” 27 And answering Jesus, they said, “We do not know.” He also said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
