Introduction
Myles Munroe once said,
The wealthiest place in the world is not the gold mines of South America or the oil fields of Iraq or Iran. They are not the diamond mines of South Africa or the banks of the world. The wealthiest place on the planet is just down the road. It is the cemetery.
As I prayed about what aspect of the resurrection story that I felt led to speak on today, what stood out to me how conscious Jesus was of His purpose in life.
Many times in the scripture
The purpose of life … is a life of purpose.
Man, made in the image of God, has a purpose—to be in relationship to God, who is there. Man forgets his purpose and thus he forgets who he is and what life means.
Francis Schaeffer
Why should we aim to live purpose driven lives?
Why should we aim to live purpose driven lives?
As I reflected on the top reasons for a purpose driven life, there were 5 things that came to mind:
Purpose acknowledges that God has a plan (you are not an accident)
Purpose strengthens us when we encounter adversity
Purpose provides guidance and direction
Purpose gives our lives meaning and worth
Purpose helps prioritize our activity

3 Keys to living a purpose driven life
3 Keys to living a purpose driven life
A Life of Submission.
what did Jesus see that would hinder their life of purpose?
Ambition, pride, power, and status. To sum it up, this was a self-centered, self-serving request.
(see vs. 35-37)
James and John asked for a place of honor.
what was wrong with their request?
we don’t get to decide our purpose, but to discover it.
the purpose driven life is one of submission. It is counterintuitive.
in the world, the more powerful you are, the more people serve you.
the purpose of discipleship is to become more like Christ. The more time we spend with Jesus, the more things about us that’s not like Him will begin to be exposed.
what does the scriptures teach about this mentality?
Philippians 2
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
A Life of Service (vs. 42)
42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
Jesus opposes this mentality. He taught His disciples that there should be a difference in how we lead. How we treat others
pastor August taught me to be the biggest servant at the church
it’s natural for us to think of ourselves.
