Luke 24:5-8....Let’s not forget

Psalm 16:8 “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”

INTRODUCTION..

Jesus is on the cross....
Over in Matthew 27:45 “Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land.”
the sun refused to shine...
Here we see the followers of Jesus, some at the foot of the cross and some watching from afar off....
but the all see the same thing, a bruised and bleeding Jesus, close to death....
they are focused on the agony of Christ and they have forgotten something...
Jesus says to the Father, It is finished....
to the distraught people there, in my imagination, they are asking themselves what is finished....
but we know....TALK, PREACH....
Next we hear Jesus say, Father into thine hands I commit my spirit....
And he laid his head over in the lock of his shoulders and died....
and if I have anyone that has opened there bible, Matthew 27:51–53 “Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.” ........TALK, PREACH...
all of this is going on but the people just see a dead Jesus, and they have forgotten something....
Next, we see Joseph of Arimathea going to Pilate asking for the body of Jesus to place him in his tomb.....
the people full fear, anger, and grief, all they see is a dead Jesus going in his grave.....Oh they have forgotten something...
His own followers had forgotten but the Pharisees had not....
they were worried about the body being stolen to prove what Jesus had said earlier....
The grave robber theory is answered by the presence of the Roman guard and seal read...(Matthew 27:62-66).
i even remember Jesus saying over in Mark 14:58 ““We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.’ ””
but the followers had forgot...
they have taken Jesus off the cross and they are rushing to get him buried why?
Sabbath was about to start.....sundown friday to sundown saturday....
they were fearful of breaking the law....the law of no work on the sabbath....
but once again, i remember Jesus facing off against the Pharisees twice....
In the book of Matthew, we find a story where Jesus and his disciples were walking through wheat fields on the Sabbath. His disciples, feeling hungry, began to pluck heads of wheat and eat them.
The Pharisees, who were strict observers of Sabbath laws, criticized Jesus, saying that his disciples were breaking the Sabbath by working.
Jesus responded by referring to the example of David from the Hebrew Scriptures.
Jesus emphasized that something greater than the temple was present (referring to himself) and declared that he was the Lord of the Sabbath1.
Ok another time, Jesus entered a synagogue on the Sabbath, and there he encountered a man with a withered hand. The religious leaders questioned whether it was lawful to heal on the Sabbath. Jesus challenged them by asking if they would rescue a sheep that fell into a pit on the Sabbath. He emphasized that doing good was permissible on this holy day.
they were afraid to break the law, when Jesus had just fullfilled the law....TALK. PREACH
They had walked with Jesus and witnessed so much but that Friday, all they could see was a dead Jesus, in a tomb and not able to prepare his body properly,
and they had forgotten something....
and this brings us to our text for today, Luke 24:5–8 “Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ” And they remembered His words.”
verses 1-4, they come to the tomb and are greeted by the messengers...
The Preacher’s Commentary Series, Volume 26: Luke Chapter Forty-Six: The Easter Experience

They came to the cemetery to embalm Him. They came without hope, resigned to His death. The terror of Good Friday was over. The grief of Saturday was still with them and they came mourning, to prepare His body for the long journey into decomposition. They came with no faith that anything would change.

They look rather to find their Master in his grave-clothes, than angels in their shining garments

and the question was asked....Why do you seek the living among the dead?
This was a wonderfully logical question.
But if you notice, no answer is given....well let me answer for them....
why?
fear, anger, no hope, no faith....
everything that they had witnessed on friday had made them forget who Jesus truly was....
now we can’t be too hard on these ladies because we go thru less and we forget...
can i call the roll.....
get a bad diagonise....what am i gonna do..
This was a wonderfully logical question.your child is acting up....i do not what is wrong with that child..
that income tax money is low....i don’t know how i am gonna survive...
the sun is not shining in your life…and you ready to spaz out....
oh how we have forgotten who, Jesus is...
I hear you Paul…His grace is suffiecient and his power is my strong in my weakness....
i am gonna try Jesus before, I try anything or anyone first....
he hasn’t failed me yet....TALK,PREACH..
we have to be careful with fear....TALK, PREACH...

People still seek Jesus among the dead

TALK, PREACH...
so the question is answered, the trials and tribulations of this world can get you to forget who Christ truly is...
but here is some good news, God always has a ram in the bush...
in this case God has sent messengers to remind them....
look at Luke 24:6–8 “He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ” And they remembered His words.”
The first notes of hope were sounded in the hearts of the women when they remembered Jesus’ words.
it is easy to say Had they remembered His words, they would have saved themselves a great deal of sorrow but where is the lesson in that....
yes they should have remember Lazuras
yes they should have remembered The widow’s son of Nain
yes they should have remembered Jairus’ daughter
TALK, PREACH...
once again we can’t be to hard on the ladies, because we too forget and have to be reminded....
we have the finished bible and still....we forget...
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Twenty-Four: The Son of Man Triumphs! (Luke 24)

How sad it is when God’s people forget His Word and live defeated lives. Today, the Spirit of God assists us to remember His Word

let me tell you about that spirit....TALK, PREACH…(LU AS A BABY)
church let’s not forget that Jesus lives...
Exalting Jesus in Luke Surprising Message (24:5b–7)

One of our great challenges as Christians is keeping the truth of our Lord uppermost in our minds. We leak. We forget. We wander and stray. But if we keep our feet in the path of his teaching, then we’ll never be overcome in times of trouble and sorrow. We will be the only people rejoicing even in the face of death if we keep our minds fixed on his gospel!

Exalting Jesus in Luke Surprising Message (24:5b–7)
