Luke 24:13–16 ESV
That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.
Preach on 7 number of completion…wall of Jericho, days for the earth to be created 6 days and on the 7th he rested i dont believe its because he is tired…it is because he finished he completed the task at hand understand this God will always finish what he started…
Philippians 1:6 ESV
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
he is an all the way, count the cost kind of God
Talk about context = Where we are at and what has happened…
Friday has happened, death has taken place, hope has vanished, defeat has filled the disciples hearts and disappointment is in the air…
and we see Jesus has come beside them…
Preach on allowing disappointments of life keep us from noticing Jesus is walking right besides us this whole time…
Luke 24:17–21 ESV
And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.
Preach on “We had Hoped, he would redeem Israel…”
thinking of a military and political power…a freedom from their enemies in Rome…
we say I had hoped i would have found my life long partner by now, I had Hoped this would have been my year…I had hoped that When i raised my had at church that one time that the addiction that was weighing heavy on my life would cease to control me…
these disciples were talking from a place of no hope…and yet the everlasting hope was standing right in front of them…
I think this is pretty amazing looking at the timing of everything almost like God had planned this I dont know…
Friday even saturday they could hvae chosen to go to Emmaus and if they did well i dont know but they chose to go on the thirdy day…someone say third day…you know the third day…
when we are at our lowest, no hope left, feeling defeated it seems like God shows up at just the right time…if we are open to seeing him…if we know what we are looking for…
Luke 24:22–24 ESV
Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning, and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.”
Preach on a lack of knowledge of Christ and knowing who are Jesus is will keep us from seeing him…
Being in the word and in Prayer and at Church will help us see him in our life…
Luke 24:25–26 ESV
And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?”
Conclude…
write down this word if you are taking notes here today…REACH
Preach on reach…
we cant reach righteousness thats one thing we will never reach on our own...
Romans 3:23 ESV
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Jesus covers us with his righteousness and that allows us to finally be able to walk in righteousness…
I want to talk about another thing out of our reach but within Christs,
Lets go back a few verses real quick
Luke 24:13 ESV
That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,
Talk about a point in my life where I thought the only time Jesus cared or the only time Jesus showed up was when I was heading in the “right” direction…
Talk about disciples heading away from Jerusalem they were not even going in the right direction and yet Jesus showed up…
maybe your heading in the wrong direction this morning…
I know I was…and the reason…I underestimated grace…
I underestimated Grace because religion...
you see religion will always underestimate grace because religion is always focused on whats in our reach but Grace was never meant to be within our reach in the first place…
religion says your to far gone, your a horrible sinner, that if they only knew what you did oh boy…
But Jesus, you know Jesus the RISEN one is standing there saying what about me, what about my reach…what about my grace…
Jesus is saying your the very one that Caused me to go to the cross in the first place…I did what i did for you dont underestimate my Grace…
Preach
Say Prayer together (if new people show up…)
HOLY SPIRIT TAKE OVER…
