Have you ever made a decision without understanding the consequences or the full context of your actions?
Have you ever been “caught in the moment?”
Have you ever been fully immersed or absorbed in the current experience or situation?
You are so caught up that you become temporarily unaware of broader contexts or consequences…
Have you ever been caught in the moment and regretted it later?
People who are caught in the moment can often times be impulsive.
Impulsivity:
The tendency to act on a whim, displaying behavior marked by little or no forethought, reflection, or consideration of the consequences.
Impulsive actions are typically performed hastily, without deliberation or regard for the outcomes, often leading to situations that are unproductive, harmful, or risky.
Impulsivity is not inherently negative; in some contexts, the ability to make quick decisions can be to your advantage a, such as in emergency situations where immediate action is required.
However, when it leads to consistently poor decision-making or harmful outcomes, it can be a concern.
Cognitive Impulsivity: involves making quick decisions without thoroughly thinking through the potential consequences or alternatives. It reflects a preference for immediate over delayed rewards.
Motor Impulsivity: is characterized by acting without thinking, such as making snap decisions or engaging in risky behavior without considering the potential harm.
Emotional Impulsivity: refers to the tendency to act under the influence of strong emotions, without considering the rationality or consequences of the action.
I met a man yesterday…
I am guilty
I’ve been caught up before in situations without thinking…
I am guilty of being impulsive..
I have put myself in risky positions
Have you felt like you were ignorant?
Ignorance: lack of knowledge or information.
Ignorance is the state or fact of being unaware or uninformed about something.
It refers to a lack of knowledge, education, or awareness in general or in specific areas.
Ignorance isn't simply the absence of knowledge but also can involve the unwillingness to acquire or accept new information.
It differs from simply not knowing something, as it can also imply a conscious choice to ignore or disregard information or the lack of effort to educate oneself. Ignorance can lead to poor decision-making in several significant ways, primarily because decisions are based on the information you have at the time.
When that information is incomplete, incorrect, or misunderstood, the quality of the decisions can suffer. Quote:
"The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that's the essence of inhumanity." It highlights how failing to recognize or care about the experiences, feelings, and rights of others can be more damaging than outright hostility.
If impulsive decisions are rooted in ignorance—lacking understanding, knowledge, or awareness—the likelihood of negative consequences increases significantly.
Ignorance can mask the real risks associated with certain decisions, and impulsivity can drive individuals to act on these decisions quickly.
On the day Jesus was crucified…
There were Ignorant and Impulsive people present
Religious Jewish leaders were ignorant concerning who Jesus really was.
The Jews were protecting their religious establishment.
Their understanding of what the Messiah would be like—expecting a political leader who would liberate them from Roman rule—clashed with Jesus' teachings and actions, which were more spiritual and revolutionary in a different sense.
At His trial before the Sanhedrin, Jesus faced several accusations:
including blasphemy (for claiming to be the Son of God) and threatening to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. These religious charges were then translated into political ones for the Roman trial under Pontius Pilate.
The Roman Authorities:
The Roman authorities, represented by Pontius Pilate and the soldiers, acted primarily out of political and social considerations.
The Romans were afraid of an insurrection or revolt against the government…
Pilate found no fault in Jesus but the people chose Barabbas who a murderer over an innocent man.
Their impulsivity drove them to crucify Jesus.
Scourging and Mockery: Before the crucifixion, Jesus is scourged (whipped with a multi-lashed whip containing embedded pieces of bone and metal).
Roman soldiers also mock Him, clothe Him in a purple robe, place a crown of thorns on His head, and hail Him as "King of the Jews."
Carrying the Cross: Jesus is forced to carry His own cross to the place of execution
Crucifixion: Jesus is nailed to the cross through His wrists (or hands) and feet.
But… Through their Ignorance and Impulsivity
Jesus said this…
Luke 23:34 ESV
And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
Father… On the cross Jesus expressed openly his intimate relationship with the Father!
Father, I love them even through they are not showing love to me…
Father…
Forgive: to forgive v. — to stop blaming or taking an offense into account.
Father… don’t charge this against them….
Father…. “They know not what they do”
Father… They are ignorant and impulsive….
They are caught in the moment!!!!!!
Forgive them....
Forgive them Father, because my death is going to forgive “All of the Them’s”
Colossians 1:13 ESV
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
