Resurrection defined – Rising from the dead.
Luke 24 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, [a]and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were [b]greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ”
What is the one difference between the following tombs?
The Great Pyramid of Giza (Pharoah Khufu), Linen’s Tomb in Red Square in Moscow, Leonardo Da Vinci’s Tomb, Shakespeare’s Tomb, and Christ’s Tomb in Jerusalem? All of them have human remains in them accept one. the Jesus’ Tomb is empty.
The best news that the world can hear is in verse 6. What is the real message of the resurrection?
Let’s consider the message of the resurrection in addition to the events of the resurrection.
The first message of the resurrection is that Jesus is alive ... He is not dead!
Matt 16:21
21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
Matt 17:22-23
22 Now while they were [g]staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.” And they were exceedingly sorrowful.
Where is Jesus?
Hebrews 10:12
12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,
What is Jesus doing?
Hebrews 7:25
25 Therefore He is also able to save [h]to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
What else is Jesus doing?
John 14:1-3
14 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many [a]mansions; if it were not so, [b]I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
He is now waiting for the father’s plan to be completed, then he will come again.
Where else is he?
John 15:1-5
15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He [a]takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
Galatians 5:22 “ the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [g]gentleness, self-control.”
Matt 28:19 “Go... and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; ... I am with you always...”
The message of the resurrection is first... “He is alive and eternally alive.
The second message of the resurrection is that our sins have been forgiven and we are eternally secure in Him.
Ephesians 1:7
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
1 Peter 1:18-19
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with [g]corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (Remember the Passover during Israel’s deliverance from Egypt.)
What is the message of the resurrection? (1) Christ is alive, (2) Our sins have been forgiven and we are eternally secure in Christ.
And thirdly, we will experience a bodily resurrection.
1 Cor 15:23
23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.
John 6:37-39
37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will [f]by no means cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.
What is the message of the resurrection? (1) Christ is alive, (2) Our sins have been forgiven and we are eternally secure in Christ, (3) we will experience a bodily resurrection.
And fourthly, heaven is our eternal home.
John 14:2-3
2 In My Father’s house are many [a]mansions; if it were not so, [b]I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
Remember that Christ’s resurrection validates everything that he said.
We will meet and know our loved ones.
I Cor 13:11-12 (know)
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
I Thess 4:13-14, 17-18 (meet)
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen [b]asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who [c]sleep in Jesus.
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
What is the message of the resurrection? (1) Christ is alive, (2) Our sins have been forgiven and we are eternally secure in Christ, (3) we will experience a bodily resurrection, (4) heaven is our eternal home.
And finally, the message of the resurrection, is that God will cheer us on our journey. Because Christ rose from the dead and is living inside us, we can face all the tomorrows with confidence, assurance and perfect peace.
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13); “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak” (Isaiah 40:29); A merry heart [g]does good, like medicine (Proverbs 17:22)
Celebrate during this enabled (confidence, assurance, and peace) journey because He is risen!

Prayer:
Heavenly Father...
I do believe the testimony of Scripture.
That Jesus is your eternal son.
I believe that He went to the cross and died for my sins.
I confess to you that I am a sinner.
I need your forgiveness.
I am asking you to save me.
I am trusting you to do it right now.
I accept your gift of salvation.
I accept you as my personal savior.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
Right now, your name is written in the lamb’s book of life and God has a place for you in heaven.
This is the message of the resurrection!
