In what circumstances might you tend to tell the truth but not necessarily the whole truth?
Birthdays, Anniversaries, special occasions...
Wife & Husband situations
Deep, dark secrets
What special task did Samuel perform over Saul? (9:27-10:1)
He talk Saul that God had chosen him to be king over Israel and then anointed him.
Why do you think he had the servant to go an ahead instead of doing it in front of him?
What proof did Samuel offer to Saul that his words were true? (10:2-6)
Two men by Rachel’s tomb who tell him his father is worried about him.
Three men in Tabor who will give him two loaves of bread.
He would prophesy alongside a group of prophets at the hill of God.
What instructions did Samuel give to Saul? (10:7)
Do as the occasion demands, for God is with you!
Why do you think Saul did not tell his uncle all Samuel had said? (10:16)
Maybe he was afraid...
Maybe he felt that the news would come across better if Samuel announced it first.
Maybe he really didn’t want it to start with
Maybe he didn’t believe what Samuel said.
Why do you think Saul hid from Samuel and the people? (10:21-22)
Fear of public speaking...
Didn’t want the position.
Didn’t feel adequate to take the position.
Afraid of the people’s response that God chose him.
How did Samuel present Saul to the people in order to enhance his popularity? (10:24)
The Lord has chosen this man.
There is no one like him among all the people.
Look how tall and handsome he is.
What was the significance of writing down the rules of kingship? (10:25)
So that the warning of God would be recorded. When the people changed their minds, they could go back and look at how God had warned them not to do this and how it was going to turn out.
So that God could be proven true. Having a written account of something means that the events surrounding that thing can be proven true or false. They could see that God knows everything, even in this situation.
What was the people’s response to Saul being chosen as king? (10:24-27)
Some of the people shouted in acclamation.
Some decided to go home with him and protect him.
Others rebelled and did not believe he was the right man for the job.
