Have you all ever known someone or met someone who has done things that make you not want to be associated with them anymore?
For example if you had a I-pad and a friend came over to hand out with you. But then when they went home later you noticed that your Ipad was missing. Then you call the friend and they said they haven't seen or know nothing about the IPad. Then a few days later you go over your friends house and find out that your IPad is at their house and they in fact stole it. How would you feel about that person and your friendship if they stole from you and continued to lie about it?
Or what if there was a kid that you use to be friends with and you shared a intimate secret with him that only people in your family knew. But one day this friend got upset with you and he went out and told everyone your personal secret and to add salt to the womb he also smacked your little sister.
How would these things make you feel?
Would you want to hang out with these people anymore?
Would you still have a relationship with them?
Today we are going to talk about the relationship between God and Man and how it was broken.

Take Aways

Be led by the Word of God
Sin leads to shame, guilt and death.
The answer to the problem of sin is Jesus.

Big Idea- Man has sinned against God breaking the relationship between man and God, in Gods love and grace he has provided a solution in the promised seed who is Jesus.

Our main text is going to be Genesis 3, but before we go to that we will recap and I will fill you in on some information that we need to know for what we are talking about today.
So last time you all went through Genesis 1 with Pastor Rick and you went through creation showing that in the Beginning was God and that He made all things and in this He made the garden of Eden. God first made Adam, then he made Eve who was supposed to be Adam’s helpmeet.
In Genesis 2 it talks about a garden that God planted for man to dwell with Him in. This Garden is the Garden of Eden.
In this garden God has placed two important tree’s the tree of life, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Once God made the Garden of Eden he placed Adam in the Garden to tend it and to keep it.
God gave Adam one commandment and that was that He could eat of every tree in the garden but not from the tree of the Knowledge of good and evil. He said if Adam ate of it that in that day He would surely die.
Then God made Eve to be with Adam.
Our main Text
Genesis 3:1–7 NKJV
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
Now you notice that the serpent came to Eve and not Adam right. Why do you think that is?
Who did God give the command to? What do you think Adam would have said?
Ok, I’ve got another question for you all. Can and are we tempted just as Adam and Eve were in our lives?
What are we to do when we are tempted to do things that are against God?
James 4:7 NKJV
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
How do we submit to God?
1 Peter 5:6 NKJV
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
Romans 7:4 NKJV
Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.
Romans 8:7 NKJV
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
Galatians 5:16–18 NKJV
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
When temptation comes we are to resist the Devil, not on our own but with the power of God and relying on the Word of God to lead us. We should know the Word of God by studying it so well that when someone comes and twists it then we can tell the truth from a lie. Here Eve did not resist the serpent, she listened to the serpent, questioned what Adam told her and then she followed her desires lusting after the forbidden fruit and eventually eating it. Not only did she eat it but she offered it to Adam.
Here we see that Adam did not put up much of a fight either did he? She offered and he ate. Why is this worst than Eve’s response?
This is worst in the case of Adam because he recieved the command directly from God, but he disobeyed knowing what God said and that what He did was wrong. Adam was supposed to lead Eve to do the right thing, instead he took part in the wrong thing.
Just as Adam recieved the command directly from God we have recieved the word of God and have the Holy Spirit to help us live a righteous life fighting the flesh and resisting temptation.
Since we are on the topic of temptation there is a certain temptation that you should not just wait around for it to leave.
Does anyone know what kind of temptation I am referring to?
Yes, youthful lust. You don’t just sit in a situation that is causing you to lust after a woman, you flee from it.
2 Timothy 2:22 NKJV
Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
In Genesis 2 God tells Adam that if he eats of the forbidden fruit that he will surely die. Did they die?
Yes they did, spiritually and naturally. Because they sinned against God their relationship with God was broken and separation from God is spiritual death.
They were also made to live forever, however one of the consequences of Sin is that people would die and their bodies would decay and go back to the earth.
Back to the text Gen 3:8-13
Genesis 3:8–13 NKJV
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
The relationship between Adam and Eve and God were so close that they recognized the sound of God moving through the garden. But when God was approaching then Adam and Eve Hid.
Have you ever done anything wrong and when your parents or a teacher or someone came you hid what you were doing?
Sin leads to shame guilt and death. Instead of confessing what they did Adam blamed Eve, and Eve put the blame on the serpent.
In verse 9 God Addresses Adam directly. Why do you think this is?
It was Adams responsibility to keep the garden and to steward the commandment that God gave him for him and Eve to follow. Adam was to lead his family and take care of creation. Eve was there to be Adams help and companion. Adam heard directly from God and had no excuse to say anyone deceived him.
In the same way as men, when you all are married it is your responsibility to lead your home spiritually and to make sure that you are teaching your children the Word of God and washing your wife with the Word.

Genesis 3:14–24 NKJV
So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.” Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.” And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them. Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”—therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
So here we see in verse 14 that God punished the serpent so that it now goes on its belly and eats dust.
Who does the serpent represent?
Revelation 12:9 NKJV
So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
However in verse 15 we see something very important to all of us. God puts a solution to the problem of sin and a broken relationship with Him.
When it says the God will put enmity (or hostility) between the woman and the serpent and between her seed and the serpents seed.
I have a question, do woman have a seed?
Isaiah 7:14 NKJV
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
This Child that is to be born of a woman without the seed of a man is Jesus. He will defeat Satan and restore the proper relationship between man and God and the world.
Romans 16:20 NKJV
And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
In verse 16 we see that God caused the women to will bear children in pain. She will have desire for her husband and he will rule over her.
In verses 17-19 we see that because of Adams disobedience the earth was cursed and man must work to eat and they are to eat off the plants. Also death was given as a curse, where it says that man will return to dust as the dust that he can now die.
God then removed Adam and Eve from the garden and set angels to protect it.
This removal from the Garden where Adam and Eve were able to walk and be in fellowship with God. Just like they were kicked out of the garden, mankind’s relationship was broken with God.
But in all of this God gave us the promise of a savior, Jesus .
