Prophecy Fulfilled

Exodus 19:1–2 (NKJV)
In the third month after the childrenf Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai. For they had departed from Rephidim, had come to the Wilderness of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness. So Israel camped there before the mountain.
God had promised to Moses that He would bring the children of Israel to Mount Sinai way back in Exodus 3 at the moment of the burning bush.
Exodus 3:12 NKJV
So He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”

Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to Him.

There are times when we as people need to take the first step to the LORD. Remember He already made the initial step to you. He died on the cross for you. He called to Moses from the burning bush. He loves you, but sometimes He is waiting for you to come to Him.
Exodus 19:3 NKJV
And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:

We need to go to the throne of grace and meet the Savior!

In a moment we are going to compare Sinai to God’s throne, just as the tabernacle is a shadow of heavenly things. We need to run to God, following the LORD’s prayer in Luke 11 Jesus says that we need to knock and beg on the LORD’s door in prayer asking like an annoying neighbor on a sit com. Ask and it will be given seek and you will find knock and it will be given to you Hebrews four puts it this way
Hebrews 4:14–16 NKJV
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

The Covenant at Sinai

Exodus 19:4–6 NKJV
‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”
Notice that God starts His covenant by declaring His work of Redemption

God’s work of Redemption

1 Have you seen what I did to the Egyptians?

God defeats the enemies and he still is in the business of defeating the enemy

Jesus came to this world to defeat the enemy!

1 John 3:8 NKJV
He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

2 I brought you out on Eagles Wings!

God rescues us from bondage, just like Jesus delivers us from the consequences of our sins.
Isaiah 40:28–31 NKJV
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

3 I brought you to myself.

God draws us to Himself, He wants to have a relationship with us .

Jesus death defeats the devil and draws the world to Himself.

John 12:30–32 NKJV
Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake. Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”
Notice that Jesus makes Himself available to everyone. The cross is open and available. He died for you. Because He wants to have a relationship with you!

Israel’s Part - Obey My Voice and Keep My Commandment.

This is different from God’s covenant with Abraham. In that covenant God has a forever covenant with Abraham about his people and his land. The land belongs to Israel. God gave it to them, it is unconditional. (Genesis 13 & 15 God makes a covenant with Abraham about the land. You can’t take it away.
There is an interesting passage in Isaiah 11 about the coming Messiah and the children of Israel being brought back a second time to the land. God keeps his covenant with Israel. In Jeremiah 34.17-22 the children of Israel are accused of defiling God’s covenant for land. It is ugly. God talks about them transgressing the covenant of blood of the animals cut in half. He tells them that they will be punished by God sending the Babylonians to disperse them all over the world. God did that and brought them back and now in Israel 1948 he has brought them back to the land. I can’t wait for them to finally embrace the branch of righteousness the stem of Jesse that Isaiah 11 speaks of and finally plant their roots deep in the promised land.
Similarly Communion is our new unconditional covenant, this cup is a covenant in My blood, this do as often as you drink it remembrance of me.
A new commandment I give unto you that you love one another as I have loved you, greater love has no man than this than to love one another.

God’s Promise - you will be a special treasure to Me and You will be a kingdom of priests to Me, a holy nation

God’s promise to Israel is an if than statement, it is conditional. We find in the book of Hosea the prophet having 3 children Jezreel, Lo Ammi, and Lo Ruhammah. The book says that Lo Ammi means not my people! The reason they became Not God’s people - spiritual adultery. The reason they were once again redeemed, The resurrection. You don’t believe me read Hosea 6 later. We break that intimate relationship that God wants to have with us. He still wants that kind of intimate relationship.

Agreeing to God’s terms!

Exodus 19:7–9 NKJV
So Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before them all these words which the Lord commanded him. Then all the people answered together and said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do.” So Moses brought back the words of the people to the Lord. And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever.” So Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.
I picture a courthouse where God’s terms are laid out Moses acts as the lawyer a type of Christ remember Jesus is our advocate, and God is the great judge!
Once the agreement is made God says that He will come to them in a thick cloud.
They would believe FOREVER!

READY FOR THE THIRD DAY!

Exodus 19:10–15 NKJV
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. Not a hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with an arrow; whether man or beast, he shall not live.’ When the trumpet sounds long, they shall come near the mountain.” So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes. And he said to the people, “Be ready for the third day; do not come near your wives.”
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.

The LORD is coming CONSECRATE the people.

Consecrate is setting apart for serving and worshipping the LORD!

the king James just uses the word sanctify which is appropriate because it is all the same word in this chapter. (I looked it up) It has the idea of being clean for God.

Wash your clothes!

The people had to make sure that their clothes were clean. The spiritual application is that once you have a relationship with God your life should be clean. Letting the new man rule. renewed in the spirit, Give the example of Uncle Darrel.

The Washing of Regeneration

Titus 3:5–6 NKJV
not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

Set your boundaries!

The children of Israel couldn’t touch the mountain of God! They were warned repeatedly to not come near the mountain. That is very important. BOUNDARIES ARE IMPORTANT! You need boundaries with your relationship with God! Like God prayer and Bible reading are important. I won’t let my trash come into church. I will not curse when I am in the church building. We also need to have boundaries in our personal life. Music we won’t listen to, movies we won’t watch, people that we can not associate with, places we won’t frequent.

Holy places should be respected.

Do you respect holy times and holy places. God’s house should be respected above other locations. You should have your holy time with God, that you spend with him and His word.

Listen for the trumpet!

God is coming back we need to listen for the trumpet. We need to be ready for the return of the king of kings. He could return at any day.
1 Thessalonians 4:16 NKJV
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

Be Pure!

The children of Israel were to be sanctified, they were to have their clothes watched and were to keep away from their wives for three days, while as Christians we are not told to stay away from your spouse (unless for a time for prayer and fasting), you are told to be faithful to your spouse. Keep yourself pure in your marriage do not commit adultery. Do you know how you do that. SET BOUNDARIES, Keep your life clean!

The Glory of the LORD!

Exodus 19:16–20 NKJV
Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly. And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice. Then the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.

Thunders, Lightning, Smoke, and a trumpet

The same elements are found around the throne of God!

Revelation 4:5 NKJV
And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

Jesus paid for your Redemption with His precious blood.

1 Peter 1:18–20 NKJV
knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you

Christians are His special people!

1 Peter 2:9–10 NKJV
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
Do you see the connection to Mount Sinai, do you see the connection to Hosea! God wants a special relationship with you! His mercy paid the way so that you could be saved.

God came down, so Moses could go up. Jesus came down, so we can go up!

1 John 4:9–10 NKJV
In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Our sin broke the relationship with God, He left His father’s throne, He didn’t consider it robbery to be equal with God, and He died so that you can live.
He did all this for you, so that you can inherit the kingdom of God. We started this Sunday by reading from 1 Peter 2 where Paul called Believers a chosen generation a royal priesthood a hlly nation, his own special people, like the Israelites in Exodus 19. In closing we have a God willing to come down and restore a relationship with a lost people. We look again to 1 Peter.
1 Peter 1:3–4 NKJV
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
