Athanasius’s ultimately convincing response to Arius had stressed Christ’s full divinity. Athanasius argued—and the church as a whole came to acknowledge the eternal significance of his conclusion—that without full divinity, Christ could not impart the salvation the Bible and the church’s worship testified to.
