Hymn 366
Personal Examination
1 Corinthians 11:28 “Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.”
Examination (It’s About the Cross)
Taking of the Bread
1 Corinthians 11:23–24 “For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.””
Billy to Pray for the Bread portion
As the bread is being passed out remember what Romans 12 says:
Romans 12:1 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”
As we are commanded in 1 Corinthians “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
Taking of the Wine
1 Corinthians 11:25–26 “In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”
Bo to Pray for the Wine portion
As the bread is being passed out remember the sacrifice made on our behalf and the love displayed in John 3:
John 3:16–18 ““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
As we are commanded in 1 Corinthians “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
