Abiding in Christ

JOHN 1-4 WILL YOU BELIEVE JESUS IS GOD, MESSIAH, AND SAVIOR? JOHN 5-9 DON’T REJECT THE AUTHORITY, SOVEREIGNTY, DIVINE SOURCE, AND DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST. REJECTION REVEALS SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS. JOHN 10-12 JESUS CARES FOR YOU, WILL YOU TRUST HIM? JOHN 10 TRUST IN JESUS YOUR SHEPHERD. FOR ETERNITY. FOR TODAY. JOHN 11 (RAISING LAZARUS) JESUS’ POWER OVER DEATH REVEALS HIS MESSIAHSHIP. GOD GENUINELY CARES ABOUT OUR HURTING HEARTS! JOHN 12 CONFLICT OF BELIEF EACH PERSON MUST CHOOSE WHETHER THEY WILL BELIEVE IN JESUS AND USE THEIR LIFE FOR ETERNAL IMPACT. JOHN 13 TRUE DISCIPLES OF CHRIST LOVE AND SERVE ONE ANOTHER OUT OF A TRANSFORMED HEART! JOHN 14 LIVING IN THE ETERNAL PRESENCE OF GOD IS ONLY THROUGH CHRIST. THE HOLY SPIRIT ENABLES LOVING OBEDIENCE. Abiding in Christ JOHN 15:1-17 ABIDING IN CHRIST 1. As the vinedresser, the Father knows who is abiding in Christ and prunes those who are. The Father knows who believes and sanctifies those who believe. 1-4 2. Discipleship is directly tied to abiding in the truth of Christ. 5-8 ABIDING IN CHRIST 3. Abiding in the love of Christ leads to obeying Christ. 9-10 4. Abiding in Christ’s joy results in my joy in the midst of what comes in life. 11 5. Abiding in Christ results in loving one another. 12-17 ABIDING IN CHRIST RESULTS IN RIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, INTERNAL JOY, AND LOVING OTHERS. APPLICATION 1. The Christian life is not possible in our own strength but through God working in our lives. Living right (obedience to God) is only possible through a relationship with Christ. APPLICATION 2. Abiding in Christ is taking the truth of Christ and making choices based upon that truth. Therefore, you need to seek to understand God’s desires for your life so that you may follow them. APPLICATION 3. Ask yourself, how can I proactively love someone in our church today? 4. Real joy is not a product of me doing things that make me happy but of living in right relationship with God resulting in obedience and loving others. APPLICATION 5. During the trials of life, remind yourself that joy is not based on my circumstances but upon my relationship with God. Take hope in His grace, love, and peace. ABIDING IN CHRIST RESULTS IN RIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, INTERNAL JOY, AND LOVING OTHERS.
