Surprises
Synopsis
People are often taken unawares by God’s power, love and wisdom. The actions of God and Jesus Christ are often described as surprising those who witnessed them.
God’s actions surprise people
Surprise at the sudden appearance of angels
Lk 1:11–12
Luke 1:11–12 (ESV) — 11 And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And Zechariah was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him.

The hair of their heads was not singed, their cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them.
