Principles of Leadership

Tell me about what stuck out to you from last classes:
What are some wins you’ve experienced this year?
How are you coming along on your one thing I asked you to do for this year to challenge yourself
Biblical Success Principles:
What’s the difference between a command and a principle?
A command is something of specificity
Go, make disciples of all nations.
Q: Is God asking me to do something specific here?  Yes!  He is asking me to make disciples.
Conclusion: This is a command.
A principle example:
Is usually something that is a metaphor
Do not be yoked with unbelievers.
Q: Is God asking me not to be yoked with unbelievers?
Conclusion:  This is a principle.  I have to decide how to apply it to my life.  The principle is that, when we get ourselves into close associations with unbelievers, the more binding the relationship, the more cautious we should be.
There’s Biblical call laws/principles
We can operate in biblical principles and laws when they’re done in faith
Romans 3:27 NKJV
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.
Everything returns to God
If it only returns to you, pride steps in
Romans 8:1–2 NKJV
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Operating in this will cause you to walk with God and no outside force can stop you
If I come to Jesus and believe then this law duly set in motion by God protects me from Hell.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved (KJV)
With this ring I thee wed (Old things we just say) What?
Law- Literal
-God is the author of spiritual law
a law has no respecter of persons
Biblical law doesn’t take in consideration your upbringing, your divorce times,
your prison sentence.
it doesn’t matter your family heritage
it doesn’t matter your color of skin
-Conversely-
Spiritual laws can’t be broken without consequences
you could rob a store and get away with breaking the law because you didn’t get caught
but spiritual law if broken has and will pay consequences If you decide to operate in these laws you too can be successful
1. Law of planning:
“He who fails to plan is planning to fail” -Benjamin Franklin
This might seem somewhat elementary
Probably one of the biggest helps for me in the last 2 years is developing daily plans, tasks and goals
Daily plan meals (what food they will include), coffee time, when I stop drinking coffee, Bible reading, Prayer time, Gym schedule times I can be on devices, My week, days of rest, when I choose to look at emails, respond to text messages
Sermon planning
Proverbs 21:5 NKJV
5 The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.
Luke 14:28–32 NKJV
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.
Planning can help stave off anxiety
Fear lies within uncertainty
A lot of unneeded stress happens when there is no vision or planning
Chaos is easier to avoid with a plan
With planning it’s easier to say yes to the right things and no to the wrong things
Having a sabbath
Matthew 25:1–13 NKJV
1 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ 7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
3 overall levels of planning:
1. Long term
2. A week, month, year
3. Weekly, and daily
Psalm 20:4 NKJV
4 May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, And fulfill all your purpose.

2. Principle of opportunity
Matthew 5:44–45 NKJV
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
But I say to you,
love your enemies,
bless those who curse you,
You will get your opportunity
Fortunately God is a God of second chances
Pastor Larry Phalen:
Proverbs 24:16 NKJV
16 For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.
Become a no doubter
Till I was 16 years old I was a maybe

Bridge Painting
Inspector
Became a no doubter
Do whatever it takes: even if it seems unfair, impractical, uncomfortable
“Eventually mediocrity has to become unlivable”
Be happy it ticks me off!
Your call to greatness might be something that makes you mad
Does drug addiction make you mad?
Does kids going to bed hungry at night make you mad
What pisses you off?
What are you going to do about it?
You can’t make an excuses:
The coach didn’t like me
Does the coach hate winning and his job?
Skill or attitude are usually the only thing that disqualify you
Unless your Jackie Robinson
If you happy where your at in life then this isn’t for you but if your seeking something greater:
in spite of all your reasons to not be successful, if you want it the opportunity will arise
this Principle doesn’t promise all opportunities will be the same but that you will have them. -
your choices on how you react to circumstances in life will pay a great part in this.
E+R=O
Event+Response= outcome
Success will be determined by the the opportunities you seize
Ecclesiastes 9:2 NKJV
2 All things come alike to all: One event happens to the righteous and the wicked; To the good, the clean, and the unclean; To him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; He who takes an oath as he who fears an oath.
All of us will have opportunities for the good and bad to react to:
In all things give thanks:
This should be required daily reading for everyone if you are in ministry
In not For
1 Thessalonians 5:12–22 NKJV
12 And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves. 14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. 15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.

Give thanks in all things:
Event+Response= Outcome
Ecclesiastes 9:11 NKJV
11 I returned and saw under the sun that— The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.
What will you do with your shot?
It’s not too late
Word on Easter
Romans 11:29 NKJV
29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
In context, this is speaking about the future restoration of the Jewish nation Paul was saying that even though the Jews had rejected God,
the Lord was still going to bring His promises to the Jews to pass.
This is an act of total grace on the Lord’s part
This scripture has a broader application too.
Any calling, or gift to accomplish that calling, that the Lord gives an individual is without repentance.
It means that regardless of what an individual does
God doesn’t withdraw His gifts and callings.
That is not to say that living a life separated unto God is not important. It is very important.
People who are living in sin are going to have their faith made shipwreck through their consciences (1 Timothy 1:19). They will begin to lose effectiveness.
However, as much as they can operate in faith, the gifts and callings of God that they have received are still there and they will function.
Anything that you’ve ever received from God is still there; it just needs to be activated by faith.
God Factored in your stupidity when he called you!
We should try to live as Holy as possible
But we’re going to blow it
We’re going to make mistakes
You’re going to miss opportunities
repent and move on
Sarah and I early in our marriage were not good stewards with what God called us to do
We repent and move on
Get the next opportunity
Sometimes opportunities show up in the form of storms:
Storms can put your knowledge to the test or shipwreck you:
Matthew 7:24–27 NKJV
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Doing the sayings of Jesus is the sure safeguard against self-deception
Seizing the opportunity
Be a doer of the word and not a hearer only
Capitalize on opportunity!
When you hear the saying what do you do?
The rains, floods, and the winds came against both houses exactly the same. The difference was not the storms but rather the foundations. Everyone, even Christians, will have problems come their way, but those who are rooted and grounded in doing the Word of God will stand.
It’s much harder to put a foundation in rock than in sand
Its way easier to dig in the sand
River Rock and building a house
The cost is way more upfront but the pay off is worth it
This is further explanation of Matthew 7:14 as to why few find the narrow way that leads to life.
Most people are taking the path that demands the least effort, with no thought of the future.
If you don’t like what’s happening in your life right now you can react to it in two different ways to move on.
1. Just do enough so you won’t get fired. Maintain status quo. Don’t care too much about your performance
2. Make yourself the best most informed, most polite, punctual employee you can be and when opportunity knocks for promotion inside or outside the company you’ll experience success.
Become a no doubter
Colossians 3:17 NKJV
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
