Born of God

everyone who believes- what does it mean to believe?

what does John mean when he says to believe?

what does it mean to be born of God?

the love of God and the love of his creation are synonymous

something we have talked about a bit already

we believe he is the Son of God and all that comes with it

The Testimony

the testimony is three parts

three parts to being part of him, which is what we want

he was baptized, he gave up his life, he lives on in and through us in his Spirit

none of those are exclusive

all of them a part of each other

all of them wherein we find eternal life in the Son

John writes this letter finally so that we might know that we have life in him and be assured in that

we are meant to be confident in our eternal life, not as something we earned but that he has promised and never broken a promise

sin that leads to death and sin that doesn’t summed up in the line that comes next

keeping on sinning or overcoming the evil one is where the death comes into play

he came so that we can know the truth about this life

Application

you can know that you have eternal life

its not a secret or a mystery that we are waiting to find out

its not a gamble or a game of plus or minus karma that you hope you put more into the good column than the bad

you can know that the Son of God gives you life despite yourself if only you’ll follow him

it seems difficult, but in the grand scheme of things its not

its far less of a burden than letting guilt and impending doom hang around your neck
