Intro: The Faith of Jesus Christ.
In Acts chapter 2, the Bible gives us understanding concerning some of the Psalms of David, that they were not speaking of David, but of Christ..
Acts 2:29–30 KJV 1900
Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
Acts 13:15 KJV 1900
And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
He then quotes Psalm 2...
Acts 13:33 KJV 1900
God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
David lived his life, served his generation by the will of God and saw corruption...
Acts 13:37–38 KJV 1900
But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
Galatians 2:16–20 KJV 1900
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Our justification is by the faith of Christ...
Paul then tells us, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God...
2 Corinthians 4:10–14 KJV 1900
Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you. We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
Quoted from,
Psalm 116:10 KJV 1900
I believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted:
Jesus is called the man of sorrows and antiquated with grief…
Psalm 116:3 KJV 1900
The sorrows of death compassed me, And the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
Psalm 18:4–5 KJV 1900
The sorrows of death compassed me, And the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: The snares of death prevented me.
Psalm 86:7 KJV 1900
In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: For thou wilt answer me.
Psalm 116:4 KJV 1900
Then called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.
We see His call in His day of trouble is not for His body which is laid in the ground. It is not to take away the suffering from His body, but it is for God the Father to deliver His soul.
Psalm 18:6 KJV 1900
In my distress I called upon the Lord, And cried unto my God: He heard my voice out of his temple, And my cry came before him, even into his ears.
Psalm 116:7 KJV 1900
Return unto thy rest, O my soul; For the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.
Why was His soul not at rest? Because it had been made a sin offering for you and for me…
Psalm 116:8 KJV 1900
For thou hast delivered my soul from death, Mine eyes from tears, And my feet from falling.
He delivered His soul from death… This isn’t the death of His body but this is second the second death…
Hebrews 5:6–7 KJV 1900
As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
Psalm 116:9 KJV 1900
I will walk before the Lord In the land of the living.
Psalm 27:13 KJV 1900
I had fainted, unless I had believed To see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Here is the faith of Jesus Christ! WE are passed from death unto life by that same spirit of Faith! He believed God, He believed the Scriptures! Through His temptation, He said “it is written” He believed the word of God when it said his soul would not be left in hell, neither would his holy one see corruption. When the pains of hell gat hold upon him, he knew he would not stay there, but that when he called out to God, He would hear Him. He knew it would be that day, He told the thief on the cross “today, thou shalt be with me in paradise”.
2 Corinthians 4:13 KJV 1900
We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
