Keys to Effective Praying
Examples: Hannah in 1 Samuel 1:6-23 and Elijah in 1 Kings 17-18.
1. Our prayers must be divinely directed (1 Kings 18:36).
2. Praying must be done in the name of the Lord (James 5:14).
a. In the power of His name.
b. We have power of attorney.
c. In His will (1 John 5:14-15).
d. In His merit as opposed to our own (Romans 5:1-2 & Hebrews 4:16).
e. To His glory (John 14:13).
3. Praying must be done in faith (James 5:15, James 1:6-8).
a. We must be divinely directed (1 John 5:14-15).
b. We must know the word (Romans 10:17).
c. We must meditate on His word, faithfulness, and power (Psalm 1:2-3, Joshua 1:8).
4. We must be bold in our praying.
a. Be bold (confidant) in our declaration (1 Kings 17:1, 18:44).
b. Elijah was bold in his prayer requests (1 Kings 17:1 & 19-22, 1 John 5:14-15)
5. We must pray specifically.
6. We must pray effectually and earnestly (James 5:16-18).
7. We must pray with persistence (1 Kings 17:19-21, 18:41-44).
8. We must pray with anticipation (1 Kings 18:41-45).
9. The one praying must be righteous (James 5:16).
