Our Mission as a Church
Our Mission as a Church
I want to talk to you our mission as a church.
Let me just ask you a question today:
Can you honestly say that you are living a life that is making a difference for God?
In Matthew 5:14–16 ““You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
In the scriptures, Jesus used two metaphors to show us how we as the church as followers of Christ should make a difference.
He tells us we should be.Salt Emily should be Light. Both make a difference, but in completely different ways.
See salt is discrete, and it preserves when salt is applied, it dissolves inwardly and disappears.
Our life, being salt is simply living a life that's been changed by God.
Salt speaks of our N-word parts, our devotion to God, our character as a Christian.
But light on the other hand isn't discrete it's obvious;
Light isn't on the inside, it's on the outside;
Is really hard to hide in darkness…
In the same way, this tells us:
Living our life, as light means speaking, and preaching and interacting in such a way…
Where it's obvious… And the world knows – that you're different!
The law that is displayed in your life… To reveal and illuminate the truth of who God is and what God has done in your heart.
Here's what Jesus said to his disciples, 2000 years ago… And here's what Jesus is saying to us today… Live your life as light. Shine Bright … share the gospel… and make a difference!
He said, "you are the light of the world!"
Many times, we read verses like that, or hear the phrase like that, and we are really don't understand what they meant when they were first said… For instance…
The phrase… "Light of the world" in the first century, was A recognizable phrase that people knew.
In fact, it was the title that was given by the Jews to certain distinguished Rabbis.
Only the late rabbis… I'm talking, the top-tier religious leaders were referred to by this title.
