Learning from Moses"Introduction : Raising our hands in worship or supplication is a symbolic gesture found throughout the Bible, often signifying surrender, praise, or seeking assistance from a JESUS. Moses, a MAJOR figure in the Old Testament, provides a powerful example of the IMPORTANCE of raising one's hands in prayer and intercession.
1, Act of SurrenderWhen we lift our hands, we demonstrate surrendering our will to God, acknowledging His sovereignty over our lives
.Bible Verse: Psalm 141:2 (KJV) - "Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
"Real World Comparison: Just as a surrendered soldier raises their hands in surrender to their commanding officer, we raise our hands in surrender to God, trusting in His guidance and direction.
2. Intercession for OthersMoses raised his hands in intercession for the Israelites during their battle with the Amalekites (Exodus 17:11-12).
Bible Verse: 1 Timothy 2:8 (KJV) - "I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
"Real World Comparison: Similar to how a lifeguard might raise their hands to signal for help for someone in distress, we raise our hands in prayer for others, interceding on their behalf before God.
3. Receiving BlessingsMoses lifted his hands to receive the tablets of the Ten Commandments from God (Exodus 24:12).Bible Verse: Psalm 134:2 (KJV) - "Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord.
"Real World Comparison: Just as a child raises their hands to receive a gift from a loving parent, we lift our hands to receive blessings from our Heavenly Father.
4. Expressing Praise and GratitudeDavid lifted his hands in praise and thanksgiving to God
.Bible Verse: Psalm 63:4 (KJV) - "Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
"Real World Comparison: Similar to how fans at a concert might raise their hands in applause and admiration for their favorite artist, we raise our hands in praise and gratitude to God for His goodness and mercy.
5. Drawing Near to God When we lift our hands in worship, we draw nearer to God, seeking intimacy with Him.
Bible Verse: James 4:8 (KJV) - "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
"Real World Comparison: Just as a child reaches their hands up to be lifted into their parent's embrace, we raise our hands in worship, longing to draw nearer to God's presence and experience His love.
Closing: In emulating Moses's act of raising his hands in obedience, prayer, and worship, we too can find strength, guidance, and intimacy with God. Let us lift our hands in surrender, intercession, reception, praise, and drawing near to the Almighty, knowing that He hears our prayers and delights in our worship.
