Introduction
Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home....REPEAT..
I don’t know your story but is there anybody else in here that knows it was God’s grace and mercy that has brought us thus far...
Grace....God given us something that we don’t deserve...
Mercy....God keeping us from what we do deserve...
God has delivered me....
TALK, PREACH....
We have been in this text before over in verse 8....
when we looked at Knowing for yourself....
and I hope someone in here today knows for themselves that God has delivered them thus far.....
TALK, PREACH...
But let’s look at the story again....
We know David as the author and at this time King Saul is trying to kill him.
The superscription says, “Concerning David, when he pretended to be insane in the presence of Abimelech, who drove him out, and he departed.” The specifics of this story are recorded in 1 Samuel 21, and it is one of the most interesting moments in David’s life.
As David was running for his life, he fled to Gath. This was an interesting place for David to hide because it was the hometown of Goliath, whom he had killed a few years prior. Everyone in Gath knew who David was.
He decided to act like he had lost his mind. He let his saliva run down his beard and he began to scratch at a doorpost. When the king saw him, he said, “Look! You can see the man is crazy!” And David left Gath unharmed. From that situation David wrote Psalm 34
And he finds himself in a cave. David went to the cave at Adullam where many loyal men joined him
It is here where David tells the men of how God delivered him.
it is here where he is telling the church of today, how God delivered him and can and will deliver us also...
From this one verse, David shows us 3 S’s.....
SEEKING, SPEAKING, AND SAVING....
Let’s walk......
Psalm 34:4 “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.”
Body
Body
during his trials and tribulations...David sought the LORD — looked to Him in loving trust
when he fought Goliath...David sought the LORD
as Saul was trying to kill him…David sought the Lord...
in all of his battles…David sought the Lord
when he brought the ark home…David sought the Lord
after it was found out about beth-seba and uriah…David sought the Lord...
in good and bad..David sought the LORD — looked to Him in loving trust
in the original hebrew text I SOUGHT means to resort to, seek, seek with care, enquire, require
that’s the problem today…we do not seek the Lord....
we want to go and find our home boys and home girls...
but we find them complaining too...
not able to help us....
the bible tells us to seek and ye shall find....Matthew 7:7
Matthew also tells us over in Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” .....TALK,PREACH..
David sought the Lord and guess what…He is not that hard to find....
he is the spot, he has always been....TALK,PREACH...
Next, David said “He heard me..”
in order for the Lord to hear you, you have to talk to Him....
I love the Lord, He heard my cry.....
Jesus is on the main line....
TALK, PREACH....
David wasn’t the first to realize this...
Come here Moses....
Come here Israelites....
Come here Abraham....
Come here New Hope.....
TALK, PREACH....
The Bible teaches that God hears our prayers if we ask according to his will and obey his commands
1 John 5:14 “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
when I am all only, what a friend I have in Jesus...
when everyone is busy with their stuff, what a friend I have in Jesus...
he hears us....
all we have to do is talk to Him...
in your secret closet....TALK, PREACH..
So in his trials and tribulations, David was seeking, the Lord and David was speaking to the Lord...
David had done all he could do...
Now it was God time to shine...
David says…And delivered me from all my fears
We must give it to Him and be patient....TALK, PREACH....
God responded when He delivered David from all his fears.
When He does respond be ready to shout...
David was going thru something...
Exalting Jesus in Psalms 1–50 Taste and See (Psalm 34)
As you read this psalm with this situation in mind, you sense how overwhelmed David was by the goodness of God in sparing his life.
Psalms 1–75 B. David’s Witness (34:4–7)
Although David was traumatized, the Lord flooded his heart with peace.
No matter what is going on in your life…seek him, speak to him and watch Him deliver you...
David fears could have overtaken him but God....
God delivered him from his fears...both from the death he feared and from the disquietude and disturbance produced by fear of it..
And if we truly remember that His grace and mercy is working in us, to silence our fears and still the tumult of the spirits;
We may not have the same circumstances as David but the troubles of this old world can way us down at time....
seek the Lord
speak to the Lord and watch Him deliver you...
and here goes the really good news...
we don’t have to do it by ourselves....
we have a Saviour....TALK, PREACH, CLOSE....
