-VERSE 11
ἔστιν-Present/ Active/ Indicative /3rd Sing. εἰμί- He is
ἠκούσατε-Aorist/ Active/ Indicative 2nd Pl. ἀκούω- You all heard
ἀγαπῶμεν- Present/Active/Subjunctive 1st Pl. -ἀγαπάω- We may love SYNTAX
*Translation* For this is the message you all have heard since the beginning, that we should love one another.
------------BREAK----------------VERSE 12
ἦν-Imperfect/ Active/ Indicative 3rd Sing.- εἰμί- He/She/It was
ἔσφαξεν-Aorist/ Active/ Indicative/ 3rd Sing. -σφάζω-He did murder
*Translation* Unlike Cain who was from the evil one, and murdered his brother. But why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s were righteous.
------------BREAK----------------VERSE 13
θαυμάζετε-Present Active Imperative 2nd Plur.-θαυμάζω- You all must be amazed
μισεῖ- Present/ Active/ Indicative /3rd Sing. μισέω- He/she/it hates *Translation* Do not be suprised my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.
------------BREAK----------------VERSE 14
οἴδαμεν-Perfect/ Active/ Indicative 1st Pl. εἴδω- we understood
μεταβεβήκαμεν- Perfect Active Indicative 1st Pl. μεταβαίνω- We have passed on
ἀγαπῶμεν- Present/ Active/ Indicative 1st Pl -ἀγαπάω- We love
ἀγαπῶν-Present/Active/Part.Nom/Masc. Sing. ἀγαπάω- He loves
*Translation* We know that we have passed on from death to life, because we love our brothers, the one who does not love, abides in death.

μισῶν-Present/Active/Part.Nom/Masc. Sing. μισέω-He hates
ἔστιν-Present/ Active/ Indicative /3rd Sing. εἰμί- He is
οἴδατε-Perfect Active Indicative 2nd Pl-εἴδω- You (pl) know
ἔχει-Present/ Active/ Indicative /3rd Sing.- ἔχω- He/she/ it has
μένουσαν- Present/ Active/ Participle Accusat./ Sing. Fem. -It remains
*Translation*
The one who hates is brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

ἐγνώκαμεν- Perfect Active Indicative 1st Pl.(γινώσκω)- We have known
ἔθηκεν-Aorist Active Indicative 3rd Sing. (τίθημι)-He/she/it laid
ὀφείλομεν-Present/Active/ Indicative 1st Pl-(ὀφείλω)- We ought
θεῖναι- 2nd Aorist Active Infinitive- (τίθημι)- We will lay
*Translation*
This is how we have come to know love, because He laid down his life for us; and we oughut to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

ἔχῃ-Present Active Subjunctive 3rd Sing.- (ἔχω)- He/she/ it may have
θεωρῇ-Present Active Subjunctive 3rd Sing.- (θεωρέω)-He/she/ it may see
κλείσῃ-Present Active Subjunctive 3rd Sing.- (κλείω)-He/she/it may close
μένει-Present Active Indicative 3rd Sing- (μένω)-He/she/it abides
*Translation*
Whoever has the goods of this world and sees his brother having a need and yet shuts away his compassion from him(closes his heart), how does the love of God abide in him?
------------BREAK----------------VERSE 18
ἀγαπῶμεν-Present Active Subjunctive 1st Pl. (ἀγαπάω)- We should love
*Translation*
Little Children, we must not love with word or speech, but with action and truth.
