The Rescue of Lot

Psalm 1:1 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;”
In the midst of judgment, God remembered mercy.
Habakkuk 3:2 “O Lord, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.”

The danger of rejecting God’s mercy.

Jeremiah 18:7–8 “If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I intended to do to it.”
Ezekiel 14:12–14 “And the word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, when a land sins against me by acting faithlessly, and I stretch out my hand against it and break its supply of bread and send famine upon it, and cut off from it man and beast, even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness, declares the Lord God.”

Consequences of Compromise

Lot’s family had been influenced by the sin in Sodom.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 “Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.”
1 Corinthians 15:33 “Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.””
The sin of Lot’s daughters
Proverbs 20:1 “Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.” (See Proverbs 23:29-35)
Ephesians 5:18 “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,”
The consequences of our sin
1 Thessalonians 5:9 “For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,”
Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Galatians 6:7–8 “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”
