(read Jonah 1)
Have you ever disobeyed and tried to run away?
Maybe you thought you could skip your homework and no one would find out.
Or maybe you thought you could get away with mistreating your brother or sister
Or maybe your parents told you to turn off the TV or Game System, but they walked away, and you decide to keep watching or playing anyways
We often disobey and think that we can get away with it. We think that nothing bad will happen as long as no one finds out what we’ve done.
But God sees everything, and God is in control.
What I want us to see from the first chapter of Jonah tonight is: God is sovereign even when we disobey.
Sovereign: a person who has supreme power or authority.
Think about a King, how there is no one more powerful in the kingdom. What they want is what they get, and they are the ones in control.
Even Jonah’s disobedience couldn’t change or mess up God’s plan. His plan was for Jonah to go to Nineveh, and that is what was going to happen.
