I. The Leaders Must Return

v.1-2
The beginning of revival started with a turning of the leaders of Israel back to God.
Here we find that the first name mentioned is the name Jeshua. This is the same name as Joshua. This is also where we get the name Jesus. Jesus name is Yeshua
2 Timothy 4:3 NKJV
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
Just last week there was a controversy in the American church between to pastors. The controversy seems to have stemmed from a call for repentance and the divergence of the emerging church from the Gospel.
We do not need an emerging church or Gospel, we need Jesus and the power of His resurrection.
We do not need entertainment, we need righteousness.
We do not need prosperity preaching we need convicting power of the Holy Spirit.
We need a return from men seeking their own way and instead seeking God.
To often we can see on Facebook men promoting ministry that is contrary to the example laid forth by Jesus. I don’t care how they do it across town, and I don’t care how they did it in the 50’s. I want to know, is it pleasing to God ad is it in align with His word.

II. There Must Be Unity

In this passage we see that the people all came together and returned to the Lord.
Revival always comes with unity.
Psalm 133 NKJV
A Song of Ascents. Of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, Running down on the beard, The beard of Aaron, Running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing— Life forevermore.
The area of Mount Hermon is very dry. It hardly ever rains there. Yet the large area at the base of the mountain is filled with thriving trees, plants, bushes, and all kinds of vegetation. How is all this plant life sustained without rain? Well, Mount Hermon is the highest point in Israel. It reaches to the clouds, collects a lot of precipitation and dew, which then flows down the natural grooves of the mountain and supplies life giving water to the vegetation.
MORAVIAN
A young man named Count Ludwig Von Zinzendorf, who went to university and attended Franke’s church, would later lead a great revival movement himself. He would become the leader of the Herrnhut Community, or the Moravians. This revival broke out at midnight during the Lord’s Supper and the 24/7 prayer meeting that began at that time would continue for 100 years
Second Great Awakening
The culmination of revival was a meeting on the frontier in Cane Ridge, Kentucky. Beginning in the context of preparation for the annual Lord’s Supper celebration among the Scottish Presbyterians, the Holy Spirit fell as He had in Cambuslang, Scotland while George Whitefield was ministering.
In Ezra everyone was involved and going the same direction. Everyone had the same desire and the same plan. But how do we do that when someone else has a different idea of how things should go?

A. We must keep communicating.

James 1:19 NKJV
So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

B. We must be kind.

Ephesians 4:32 NKJV
And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

C. We must yield our opinions when they differ from Scripture.

Isaiah 55:8–9 NKJV
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

III. The Wicked Must Repentant

v.23

It was a city of the Levites; but the people spurned Jeremiah’s warning and called forth against themselves one of his severest predictions (Je 32:27–35). This prophecy was fulfilled in the Assyrian conquest. Anathoth was laid waste and continued a heap of ruins. But the people, having been brought during the captivity to a better state of mind, returned, and their city was rebuilt.

Jeremiah 32:31 NKJV
‘For this city has been to Me a provocation of My anger and My fury from the day that they built it, even to this day; so I will remove it from before My face
Luke 15:13–20 NKJV
And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’ “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

IV. The Value of Identity.

v. 61-63
Who we are and who we claim to be matters.
There are some who identify with Christ with the mouth yet deny Him with their heart and actions.
The Levites married daughters of Barzillai. However, they denied the name of their heritage because they desired to have a name of power and influence.
However, when they lost their identity, they also lost their position.
In 2011, A US soldier shot dead an Afghan journalist working for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) after mistaking him for a suicide bomber, the NATO-led military force in Afghanistan has said.
“After a thorough investigation, it was determined the reporter was killed in a case of mistaken identity,” International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
“Mr Khpulwak was shot by an ISAF member who believed he was an insurgent that posed a threat and was about to detonate a suicide vest improvised explosive device.”
Who do you identify with?
Are you a reflection of the body of Christ?
Many who claim to be part of the church, spend more time destroying the bride of Christ than they do edifying it.
Many self-proclaimed Christians are living with a case of mistaken identity.
Being a member of the church does not make you an asset to the church. Neither does our self-righteousness. We must identify, in word and deed, with truth.
I want to add this as well, if you are at odds with every other child of God, you may want to look in the mirror. If you hate the church, repent or find a body you can identify with, but don’t stick around and reject and neglect where you are at.
The Levi’s stayed where they were but their hearts were not where it was supposed to be.
