Part 2
Exodus 2:23–25
23 After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned because of their difficult labor, and they cried out, and their cry for help because of the difficult labor ascended to God.
24 God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
25 and God saw the Israelites, and God knew.
· God, like Moses, cares for the oppressed!
· Check this out: God Heard, God remembered, God saw and, God knew!
· Why is the Covenant important:
· Gen 17:8. And to you and your future offspring I will give the land where you are residing—all the land of Canaan—as a permanent possession, and I will be their God.”
· Ge 48:4 He said to me, ‘I will make you fruitful and numerous; I will make many nations come from you, and I will give this land as a permanent possession to your future descendants.’
· Genesis 15:13-14 13 Then the Lord said to Abram, “Know this for certain: Your offspring will be resident aliens for four hundred years in a land that does not belong to them and will be enslaved and oppressed. 14 However, I will judge the nation they serve, and afterward they will go out with many possessions.
Exodus 3:1–14
1 Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
· Mountain of God: Mount Sinai
· Mount Sinai is the location where Israel received the Ten Commandments from God after the departure from Egypt and the crossing of the Red Sea.
· It took the Israelites 3 months to make it to Mount Sinai
2 Then the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire within a bush. As Moses looked, he saw that the bush was on fire but was not consumed.
· Fire is frequently shown with the revelation of Yahweh (God) in Exodus as he delivers Israel, guides Israel, and purifies Israel.
· Notice the fire is coming from within the bush, not from outside, and it represents the Lord who will deliver his people from persecution!
· God revealed Himself to Moses while he was working.
· Work is very important, When we are Idle, Satan is excited!
3 So Moses thought, “I must go over and look at this remarkable sight. Why isn’t the bush burning up?”
· Moses was by himself, He was talking to Himself!
· God will use something unnatural in a natural environment to get our attention.
· We often run from the presence of God when He reveals Himself!
·
4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush, “Moses, Moses!”
“Here I am,” he answered.
· Only when Moses went over to look, God revealed Himself!
· God is there, we just have to take the step towards Him!
5 “Do not come closer,” he said. “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
· This was a sign of submission and respect!
· taking off sandals. It was common practice for priests to enter temples barefoot to prevent bringing in dust or impurities of any sort.
6 Then he continued, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.
· I AM: Makes it present. I AM puts God everywhere at all times!
· The God: there are many “gods” in the World, But God said, I AM The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob!
· Although, they had long been in the grave; physically, their Spirit is with God for eternity!
7 Then the Lord said, “I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings,
8 and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them from that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey —the territory of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.
· God said: God can talk!
· God Observed: God can see!
· Heard crying: God can hear!
· God knows: God has a mind!
· God came: He can go!
· Bring them: God will take you there!
· Land flowing with milk and Honey????
· Milk- Livestock
· Honey- Full of vegetation!
9 So because the Israelites’ cry for help has come to me, and I have also seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them,
10 therefore, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”
· When God hears his children; He responds!
· There is no oppression in the Kingdom of God!
· God called Moses to Go!
· Sounds familiar???
· Matthew 28:19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
11 But Moses asked God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
· The majority of the Church ask this question until we die…. Who am I!
12 He answered, “I will certainly be with you, and this will be the sign to you that I am the one who sent you: when you bring the people out of Egypt, you will all worship God at this mountain.”
· Jesus said the same exact thing to the Disciples…..
· I will be with you!
13 Then Moses asked God, “If I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what should I tell them?”
14 God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM., This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.”
· God is enough!
· I will be who I will be’,
· ‘I will be what I was’
· God is eternal and unchangeable, and always the same, yesterday, to-day, and for ever.
