Revelation - Greek word apocalypse - means “to unveil” or “to uncover”
What is John “unveiling”?
He is revealing a faithful guide to discouraged believers in horrendous circumstances that threatened to crumble the foundations of their faith.
Jesus is our faithful guide because:
He is a faithful witness of a relationship with God.
He has been resurrected from the dead.
He is the ultimate King.
What does our faithful guide say about the battles we are facing?
1) No one knows the time
Matthew 24:36 “Now concerning that day and hour no one knows—neither the angels of heaven nor the Son—except the Father alone.”
2) Focus on the power God wants to give you
Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.””
3) Get ready
Matthew 24:42 “Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.”
4) We win
Matthew 24:30–31 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. He will send out his angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.”
What do we do in the meantime?
Focus on the words of Christ (“read aloud”)
Hear the words of Christ
Keep the words of Christ
