Why Did Jesus Come?
I want to do a series about a question and that is “Why Did Jesus Come? Many people when they hear this question will answer it from Luke 19:10 and that would definitely be the answer. Let’s look at it.
Luke 19:10 (NKJV) 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
But in this series I want to look at a different scripture and you will see why.
1 John 3:8 (NKJV) 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
1 John 3:8 (NLT) But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.
This is why I’m calling this series “Why Did Jesus Come” and we can see that He came to destroy the works of the devil.
Jesus made it so clear what the devil’s works are in:
John 10:10 (NKJV) 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Church family, Yes Jesus came to seek and to save us from our sin’s and that is the most important. But after I am saved Jesus also came and that was to destroy the works of the devil over us believer’s.
When we started this church 30+ years ago the Lord gave me the vision for CFFC and it came out of a time of prayer and from this scripture in Ecclesiastes.
Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 (NKJV)
9 Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor.
10 For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.
11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone?
12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
That’s where we have our vision of, We are a praying church, A going church, a life changing church, because a 3 fold cord is not easily broken.
But I believe that the devil has a 3 fold cord also and I believe that Jesus came to destroy them in our lives, and they are.
WORRY, FEAR and ANXIETY.
Now there are lot’s of roots out of these 3, like rejection, anxiety attacks, depression, but I think we can say that the main 3 here WORRY, FEAR and ANXIETY,
destroy or harm so many lives.
In this series I’m hoping to destroy some works of the devil in lives and see people set free from these 3 cords that entangle them.
There is a prevailing sense of Worry, Anxiety & Fear in the world around us, and for many people these are a daily and personal struggle.
Thankfully, the Bible isn’t silent about this.
1 John 3:8 (NIV84) 8 He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning.
The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
Let’s look at Worry: To me worry is negative meditation.
Here are some quotes on worry.
Don’t fear the future, God is already there. Remember He know’s the end from the beginning.
Stop worrying about what can go wrong and start getting excited about what can go right. That is HOPE, And expectation of good.
Worry doesn't empty tomorrow of its troubles, but it empties today of its strength.
If you think too much, you'll create a problem that was never there to start with.
If you fill your head with worries, there won't be room for anything else.
When you worry, you'll use your imagination to create something you don't want.
Billy Graham said, I read the last page of the Bible and everything works out good in the end. Amen. Even if all our problems don't go away, we have such an amazing future waiting for us.
Colossians 3:1–4 (NKJV) 1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
In life there are time’s we need to get our minds focused on eternal things and then the things of this world become vaguely dim.
Revelation 21:1–7 (NLT) 1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone.
2 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.
4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
5 And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
6 And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. 7 All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.
Isaiah 65:17 (NLT) 17 “Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore.
Just reading these few scripture’s give’s me such comfort that no matter what, if everyone goes against me, in the end, WE WIN!
Here are some “Reason’s not to worry”
It's totally useless, worrying about a problem never changes it. All it does is makes you miserable while you wait.
Worrying is more exhausting than a full day work.
Worrying is DIS-EASE, but it can create Disease.
Worrying steals our joy.
Worrying is sin, it is the opposite of trusting God.
Your time is too important by wasting it to worry.
Why we shouldn’t Worry
It doesn't fix or solve anything, but it will make you sick.
Go to Acts 27. Paul is on this sinking ship and many times we feel like were on a sinking ship and the thing they had to do was lighten up.
Acts 27:18–20 (NKJV) 18 And because we were exceedingly tempest-tossed, the next day they lightened the ship.
19 On the third day we threw the ship’s tackle overboard with our own hands. 20 Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest beat on us, all hope that we would be saved was finally given up.
Many times in our lives we get so full of stuff that all we can do is worry and yet I believe we need to lighten up and get full of God’s Spirit.
Growing up we didn’t even have a closet, we had draws and a armoire. Today we have closets in every room, a storage area in our basement and attic, and we have to rent out more storage spots for all of our stuff. Church family I think we need to lighten up a little bit. I think it will relieve a lot of pressure and worries in our lives.
K.I.S.S> Keep it simple sweetie.
Now Church family, if we don't fill our minds up with the word of God, the enemy will oblige us and fill it with fear, anxiety, worry, stress, and temptations.
Romans 12:1–2 (NLT) 1And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
2Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
I heard a person say it like this: “To many people go to the Phone first, instead of the Throne".
Here is a simple formula to overcome worry. It has 4 steps and you’ll will see what you will get.
Philippians 4:6–7 (NLT) 6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Don’t Worry Pray Talk to God Thank Him
THEN, you will Have amazing Peace.
Philippians 4:6–7 (AMP) 6 Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.
7 And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
The devil is the author of all worry, fear and anxieties in our lives and I believe that Jesus came to give us a great life.
Some will say, so what should I think on then? I’m glad you asked.
Philippians 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Philippians 4:8 (AMP)8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].
When we see our Jesus on the cross and redeeming us, the prophet Isaiah show’s us that Jesus not only took care of our spiritual redemption, He also provided the means for healing and supernatural peace.
Isaiah 53:4–5 (NKJV) 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:4–5 (YLT) 4 Surely our sicknesses he hath borne, And our pains—he hath carried them, And we—we have esteemed him plagued, Smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 And he is pierced for our transgressions, Bruised for our iniquities, The chastisement of our peace is on him, And by his bruise there is healing to us.
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, Jesus paid for our peace in this life.
Jesus wore the Crown of thorns on his head so that we can have a sound mind and be free from worry, fears, guilt, depression, anxiety, and stress.
He paid the price and I believe that it is our’s to receive.
You know that the devil will fight you on this one, because these things bring so much heartache and disease in people lives.
1 Timothy 6:12 (NKJV) 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Jesus didn't have to do this for us, he could've just come for our spiritual redemption, and that would've been wonderful. But he chose to, why? Because he loves us. He spared not even himself so that we may have every blessing of health, wholeness, and an abundant life!
John 10:10 (NKJV) 10The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV) 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7 (AMP) 7 Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.
Psalm 55:22 (NKJV) 22 Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
Get out your fishing pole
Psalm 55:22 (AMP) 22 Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail).
“STOP HERE”
FEAR
When we look at the Bible we see that fear came into the world after the fall and with that came all of fear’s children, Lack of peace, anxiety, worry, feeling overwhelmed, Desperation, depression, and it can get so bad that people have committed suicide.
It’s sad to think that our young people that should be enjoying life and all the fun of youth are battling this also.
It’s almost like there is a hopelessness, yet when I look at the promises of the Bible we christians should be the most hopeful people.
Let’s start in Genesis at the fall and see how we can overcome this in our lives.
Genesis 1:26–28 (NKJV) 26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
28Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 3:1–10 (NKJV) 1Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
3but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
4Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.
5For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
7Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
8And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
9Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” 10So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
So here we see fear and all of it’s evil children enter the world.
